We have all known for a while now that we won’t have a true old school center similar to Yao on our roster this upcoming season, and by old school center I mean a big body with a low post presence on both ends of the floor.

As it seems the Center by Committee thread has taken a turn for the “what can we trade T-mac for” and is “DD funny or just annoying”.

I will pull from the same article Hayesfan provided in that thread and add a few more links

    The article link: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/6646206.html

    And pose this question:

If we go with Scola, Andresen, Landry, Hayes, and Pops into the season as a rotating crew in the C/PF positions; which is the best combo or who would you want to see on the floor together the most?

Another issue we will face, you have 5 guys covering 2 spots on the floor, thats 96 minutes. (2 positions * 48 min a game)

If you look at the minutes per game average for each guy from last season total it all up you get 97 minutes, and for Andresen, 21 min ; Pops 13 min they played in a lot less games over the course of the season.
So does Dorsey pop into the lineup?

    Here is some more info

    HAYES

    SCOLA

    LANDRY

    POPS

    ANDERSON

Dorsey (not his D league #'s)

As for how our season will go I think this picture sums it up.

Hmm.. I gotta see Chuck first before I can make this decision.

There are so many questions lingering on this forum, yet preseason/regular season hasn't even started.

We needa be patient and decide when we actually know how good Andersen will be.. or how much Hayes has improved..

I'm not sure how you can get there now. The only thing we know for sure is that Scola's the starting 4 and Landry will get good chunks of time. The answer to everything else depends on how the 2/3 position minutes are allocated and whether there are minutes at the 3 for Landry or minutes at the 4 for a 3.

I look for Scola, Andersen, Chuck and maybe Dorsey to split time at the 5 at points during the season and for the Rockets to have a flexible starting lineup that is determined by matchups.

I can't think of another team that has as many possible lineups. This is going to be fun year, which is as much as you can ask if you know you're not a contender.

Depending on how Anderson plays in the league, I'd go with Scola and Anderson, with Landry and Hayes to back them up.

We don't know this. Scola could start at the 5.

i think there's going to be a lot of lineup changes throughout the year...the only constant getting big minutes will be scola and Landry will always get his 20 or so mins at least....the rest of the minutes, and what position these guys play, i think will change depending on the opponent.

But i'd like to see how Scola at center and Pops at Pf would work. Scola 's post moves draw double teams sometimes and scola can always get his shot off with single coverage, leaving pops to roam around the rim with no coverage or with a defender who's keeping an eye on scola...

Anderson and Hayes may also be something to look at. Hayes is agreat passer and moves well without the ball. Anderson has a J and can pass well facing the rim. They could develop some good chemistry with Hayes cutting to the rim and laying it in or kicking it back out to an open Anderson.

and before i get flamed for "implying" hayes and anderson feeding off of each other will be a significant part of the offense, i didnt mean that. I meant as something that can be done within the flow of the offense. Remember we'll probably have a very very balanced attack this year. To start the season we may only have one, maybe 2 guys who have the ability to average 20 a game, but i love the fact that we have A BUNCH of guys who would score 10-15 a game. And that's how a team like this sneaks into the playoffs, by suprising teams, and you surprise them by having the offense come from all directions

I wish a team would take Cook's contract. Lets give them some money to take off our hands. The guy is nice, but his playing style stinks.

    We don't have a true 5.
Hayes should start on defense, and Scola on offense. Luis isn't much on D,but at least he can provide some scrappy hustling.
Landry and Andersen can come off the bench and yet get considerable minutes.
Chuck,Dorsey, and Pops(provided if he makes it will have to take defensive responsibilities). Not a pleasant situation to be in without a doubt.

I could actually see Landry getting some more time at SF this season. He got to play there some last season and he hit a few threes. We need height so maybe we could go with a line up of like...
    PG: Brooks or Lowry
    SG: Battier, Ariza or McGrady
    SF: Landry
    PF: Scola
    C: Andersen or Hayes

He only made 1 three pointer last season...why would you sit Ariza AND Tmac?? If you want height, then Landry wouldnt be much of an upgrade over tmac or Ariza, since he's like 6'8 and Ariza and Tmac are just short of or that tall.....Landry may rebound better than them, but i don't think it's worth the ball handling and shooting you'd be losing

    brooks/lowry/conroy
    ariza/ taylor/beck (maybe/tmac(starting once healthy)
    battier/ bundinger
    landry/ pops/ scola/ chuck
    scola/ anderson/chuck

if andersen isnt impressing enough to be named automatic starter. start landry and scola. offensively we'd be set. landry deserves a starting role anyways. then bring pops and anderen in rotation off the bench or hayes for defense..... were gonna be small no matter wut, but scola can play offense at center. hes just gonna have to take some chuckwagon lessons on big man D (big big men). dorsey could be that shotblocker we desire but he seems to be completely out of the mix right now

just a thought: M. Gasol for Dorsey and Landry could be realistic
an other intresting (but not very realistic) trade would be Landry, Dorsey, Cook, Barry for Chandler

Why do you want to trade landry... Just wait a season, let yoa come back and start over... Not that this year is a wash or anything, cuz I think my rockets can make it to the playoffs this year

Scola and Landry should start. Scola should be in the low block. Game plan should be get him the ball on all early possessions, the idea being to get the other big man in foul trouble. Defensively, they've just got to back off and stay out of foul trouble and make it a scoring contest, but Scola has to stay out of foul trouble. If he gets 2 quickies, then we gotta bring in Chuckwagon and run like hell.

I could make a case for Lowry starting over Brooks in tandem with Scola. Lowry is a lot better defender and we need to have good perimeter defense since we are so soft in the middle. We would have Lowry, Battier, and Ariza on the perimeter. That's probably the best perimeter defense in the NBA. And then if Scola gets in foul trouble, you bring in Brooks at the two along with Hayes. You replace Battier and Scola, get more defense in the paint and more speed on the interior. Hayes rebounds and defends and everybody flies down the court.

its going to depend on matchups. the dynamics change far too often during a game.
