Beautiful women, culture, beaches, scenery, foods, fruits... Chicago is nice and i have always wanted to visit...but Rio is more of a spot where people will want to watch an Olympics.
They do have the 2014 World Cup so there is a definite upgrade in Infrastructure for them to have such an event.
i hope it goes to Rio. south america should get it. i live a couple of hours from chicago and there are some events planned here. it would be cool, but i still hope Rio gets it.
It's my understanding that a lot of people in Chicago are opposed due to the corruption and incompetence in the local political structure. Pumping billions of dollars into that apparatus is not going to make them more competent and less corrupt. I can understand people on both sides of the equation. I would be opposed to Seattle getting it, because our city, county, and state cannot get anything done on budge and often can't get it done at twice the initial estimated cost. We would lose billions if we were to host the Olympics.
Chicago is a great summer city. It's kinda weird, it seems like a lot of people have a really negative perception of Chicago, but it's one of the favorite cities i've ever been to. I was totally shocked at how nice of a city it was (obviously it has it's bad parts as well) when i visited for the first time.
We like to think of ourselves as well rounded. I say this all the time...if it wasn't so brutally cold here 8 months of the year, this city would be twice as expensive and have double the population.
Our economy could certainly use the cash flow though as been stated before, who knows where that money will really go. God knows Daley wants it so he has an excuse to displace more minorities.
IIRC, both LA and Atlanta made boatloads of money off of Olympics. And that US cities are the only cities to not go negative off the games. Despite corruption, I think Olympics generally ends up as a positive to any large American city due to the already in place infrastructure to support the games.
http://www.chicago2016.org/ The presentation will be aired live at 1:45 CDT for those of you that will be awake.
We've hosted it twice in the past 25 years, let the rest of the world have its share of it. Also, the fact that it would be a great terrorist target(US City + Obama's home) should make Chicago want no part of it.
The WC is going to South America! In 2014. Pay Attention! I want to know how Rio is going to fix its crime problem in time for the Olympics, if they get it? They've been trying for decades and they still hasn't fixed the problem.
in retrospect, it's kind of amazing that a city like Atlanta got the olympics. I'm not even sure I'm putting it in the second tier of American cities...the other bids must have been terrible

rudan, you kidding me? You can have any reason to not like Chicago hosting the games, but that should NOT one. We will never let the terrorists decide what we can and cannot do. Good luck Chicago, I hope you get it.
