My wife and I and another couple are going to Houston for a week at the end of July. I'm not sure this other couple has ever been to Houston. My wife and I haven't lived in Houston for more than five years, and when we are in Houston we spend most of the time with family (and at a Rockets game when possible ). This trip we're planning on doing stuff, not just hanging out with the family. What should we do? I've got some things in mind, but I thought I'd ask you guys in case I forgot about some things, didn't know about other thing, etc. Our friends are really wanting to see some stuff and I want it to be a good trip for them (and for me and my wife), so I'd like to have a number of options. Don't hesitate to mention something even if it seems obvious. We're not really "night life" people (i.e., bars and so on), so no need to mention those kinds of things. Thanks in advance.
There was actually an article in the Sunday Houst Chronicle about 100 things to do within like 60 miles or 100 miles of Houston. If you can, check it out. It might be up on their website, but I'm not sure how that all works and I have not read the article yet. But I probably will tonight and report back to you, if you like. NASA is always good. Lots of stuff down there. Kemah and Galveston are fun sometimes too. Check out the museums too. We have some great ones in Houston.
Go to Heartbreakers, a gentleman's club in Dickinson. I hear $50 gets you more than what you bargained for.
In Katy there is this place called the Forbidden Gardens. It's basically a museum and has an outdoor mini replica of the Forbidden City and has a lot of Chinese history stuff on display. They also have shows during the day, like dancing dragon stuff and playing music. I checked it out a few weeks ago and had a nice time. Here is their website. http://www.forbidden-gardens.com/
If you place any value on your time and money don't go to the Forbidden Gardens. The displays are very cheaply done and there is no historical information presented with the displays to give insight or background as to what you were looking at. When we went there weren't any dancing dragons or music, so maybe it has changed since then. But after our visit we all felt very dissapointed.

If you go to the IMAX at the Museum of Natural Science, don't miss the Cockrell butterfly mega greenhouse. Go to the Menil Museum on Alabama -west of and near Montrose- in summer time it is cool and quiet. Go to the Wortham if you can. The Verizon theatre is very nice too if there is an event- avoid the Woodlands as it is too hot. Take your wife to DSW shoe warehouse on Westheimer near Dunvale ( west of Just for Feet) - she will love it. There are nice arthouse movie theaters- Angelika in Bayou Place downtown, The Greenway at the hotel complex at the Compaq center, and River Oaks on West Gray off Shepherd. Take a day trip to Galveston and eat at the "Saltwater Grill" -located on Post office off of 21st or 19th -it is across from the opera house a few blocks from the strand. The filet mignon with bacon jam is great- also the gumbo. Also in Galveston they have inexpensive boat trips into Galveston bay for Porpoise watching-great fun. Inquire at Pier 19 - Willie G's. You said you are not interested in the Nite life, but you might consider Scott Gertners Jazz bar- Montrose near Westhiemer. Formerly Cody's, the veiw from either of 2 terraces is breathtaking-very urban. My favorite restaurants: Trulucks - Westheimer Lil' Pappasitos-Kirby @ Richmond Taste of Texas - katy Freeway @ beltway 8 Have fun and enjoy your visit!
I may have to do this, and I bet my wife will want to send you a "Thank You' card for pointing the place out to me. She's that kind of person.
what's the difference b/t this and a normal Pappasitos? Just smaller in size? Is it actually called "Lil' Pappasitos" ???
