The thing is, U of H is the biggest college in the biggest job market in Texas; and I don't think most middle-class kids in 2009 want to go to the military or do entry-level shift work right after high school, so their prospects as a college campus are pretty dang good. Especially if they can buy or gentrify enough of the surrounding real estate and create a nice "buffer zone."

Speaking of which, where the hell is the $50+ million going to come for a possible new stadium if UH already has so much change planned?

I just graduated Spring of this yr and we voted to add another fee that would increase every yr until 2013 (i think) to pay for a major renovation for the University Center. It would take a lot for UH students to agree to foot a good deal of the bill to pay for a new stadium...

Your assuming UH as a power is here to stay. Are they going to be able to sustain there status once Sumlin leaves in a year or two?

Hofheinze is a dungeon. The lighting in there is horrible and it looks bad on tv. Granted, Penders can't get fans to show up so it doesn't matter anyway.

The goal of any program should be to win a crystal ball. If UH wants it, they will need a new stadium starting with 50-60,000 seats, whether people show up, or not.

Yes. Yes they do. UH needs to put a good product on the field, or people will leave.

A big reason for this is because they have never really been as big a part of the community as Texas or Texas A&M. Who advertises at Little League games? Who is in the schools? UH needs to build themselves back up as a power. The only way to do that is to do it slowly. It CAN happen though, and it HAS started. Art Briles made the Coogs not a laughing stock. Kevin Sumlin is bringing them up. There is a level of success at UH that needs to continue for years to build that kind of support.

Their first goal is to get into a better conference. They need to start by dominating C-USA every year. UH has a bargaining chip -- there is no Big 12 school in Houston or dallas because UT, A&M, and sucklahoma don't want to compete with other Houston schools to recruit. So you go to the SEC. You try to get some sort of offer there. Start by coming up with an A&M-Arkansas kind of deal. If a major SEC team plays in Houston every year, Big 12 gets nervous. If a Houston school looks poised to potentially join the SEC, they get even more nervous.

Houston has a bargaining chip like they never had before. "Put us in the Big 12, or we'll bring lsu to Houston."

None of this is instant. This is a 10+ year plan. But the stadium has to be part of it.

One thing draws recruits above all else: TV. That's it. Tradition doesn't matter nearly as much -- Army, Harvard, Yale? When your TV contract is, at best, cstv.com and a local comcast (must die) channel, that's not going to do much for you.

So you improve your facilities and coaching. If a player can go to a school at Tech and be a 2nd string QB or go to school at UH and start, he'll start at UH. You can't win against Tech's TV schedule, so you attack somewhere else.

So, yes, the Coogs should rebuild. Immediately. And save The Blaze.

    Bitter? Lol.

I'm looking at it from an unbiased view. Y'all are the one's who aren't.

Fatty, you're not known around here for your sense of self-awareness. I'll just leave it at that.

Meanwhile, bias for UH would be "OMG WE DESERVE BIG 12 INVITE SINCE WE BEAT TECH/OSU!!" that is stupid cart-before-the-horse thinking... thinking that we need a new stadium (which we DO) isn't exactly a sign of bias, rather, addressing a freaking obvious problem.

How many games have you been to in the last decade? I'm asking for honesty, but I doubt I'll get it.

Every home game starting in 2001.

    Including...

    All Rice away games
    Every bowl game (except Hawaii)
And a couple of misc. away games (SMU, Tulane, TCU, UT)

Clyde, Hakeem, Andre Ware, Kevin Kolb, Fred Couples, Jim Nance and others should pony up, dig deep in their pockets and pay for it.

Lol. WHY did I know you and every other UH fan was going to say this tripe?

If you all went to every home game as much as you say you did, the stadium would've been built long ago.

    Unbelievable response.

Being honest to people not wanting to hear it does not equal bitterness.

    Sorry.

What is wrong with you? Seriously. What neuron in your brain is not firing to cause you to act this way?

You accuse me of lying before I even say anything, and then when I tell you the truth, you ridicule me and dismiss it?

Honestly, I think you need to seek professional help for your social ineptitude.

It is not about an increase in capacity it is about a new one that does not look terrible and has decent facilities.

also the reason you do not wait 2 years to do it is you build it when people are excited about the program. If in 2 years you are not ranked, there is no great "Thank God we didn't build a stadium" it will still be nice.

As I said, why isn't your stadium selling out every year? It's only 32,000 seats?

You're the bitter one here. Rose colored glasses were taken off by me and you're having a fit over it.

    Sorry.

You're a really sad, bitter person.

But thanks for proving my point that you don't know crap about UH.

I may be wearing glasses (at least in your deluded, universally non-respected opinion) according to you, but it beats crying little baby tears like you can't seem to stop doing after Saturday.
