did these guys forget that Pierce without KG/Allen led the Celtics to the worst record in the nba, and Tmac without Yao led the rockets to a 22 game winning streak, I was shocked to see that Tmac wasn't number 2

Well to be fair a lot of it has to do with their supporting casts. Tmac had Aaron Broooks, Scola, Landry, Mutombo, Battier and Lowry to lean on, while Pierce had a developing Jefferson and Rondo and practically no one else. Fact is its really hard to lift a team when you're a wing, Kobe and Dwade couldn't prevent their teams from going into the lottery as well.

I think Tmac is deserving of his spot. People don't mention durability, but its actually the most important trait a player could have. If you are not durable then all the talent you have don't mean a thing, and Tmac is one of the least durable players in the league so he definitely deserves to be bumped down a few spots.

I don't care if he has only played a couple years in the NBA, but Kevin Durant should be on this list IMO.

Wow all you Celtics homers have no real knowledge of basketball. The year before KG and Allen trades, the Celtics were 24-58 with worst record in the league and Pierce was the their franchise player. Oh and it gets even better...

    2006: 33-49
2005: lost in the first round
2004: lost in the first round
2003: get to the 2nd round
    2002: get to East Final

    1999 to 2001: losing records

Please tell me how Pierce is any better than T-Mac in his prime. Mcgrady led the league in so many categories, was MVP candidate, scoring champion.

Just winning a ring riding KG's coat tail doesn't make you the 2nd best SF of the last decade.

    this answers your own question.

Kelly didn't write about what ifs, it's based on what did.

I'm a big McGrady fan, but even I will acknowledge that Pierce deserves to be in front because of his achievements. He did bring his team to the conference finals and he was arguably the second biggest factor in Boston's championship run 2 years ago.

While talent and the numbers it brings certainly count for something, you can't measure greatness in a team sport based on individual statistics alone. It sucks and I hate that T-Mac is being one-upped by some delusional punk who thinks he's the best player in the league, but that's the way it is.

I think the ratings on 2k10 don't really mean anything.

you poll all the basketball experts, the majority would still take tracy mcgrady over pierce for the past 10 years.

the good thing about all these lists, kelly got #1 right all the time.

Don't think Pierce was better than McGrady, but that 24-58 record is deceptive because Pierce missed a bunch of games that year (the only year he hasn't been durable). That season, the Celtics were 20-27 in games Pierce played, and a miserable 4-31 in games he didn't play. You read that right -- 4-31 in games Pierce did not play. If anything, that's a testament to the impact he had.

"McGrady's been grimacing and in pain for most of the decade, but he's also been a standout wing. At his best, and at his healthiest, he has no limitations. No holes, nothing to work on, nothing to worry about."

This is why we all should hope t-mac fully heals, he can do anything he wants to on the court, you dont have many players like that these days, and i can tell you if you are a rockets fan you should be rooting more for this guy to comeback than for him to be some trade bait.

did you forget that paul pierce made it out of the first round of the play-offs early on in his career when t-mac clearly didn't early in his? pierce should be ranked higher than t-mac based on that alone.

and lets not even compare health issues. im not a celtics stan by any stretch of the imagination. im just pointing the facts out.

Thats a foolish sentiment. At their healthiest best, there's quite a few players who have no holes/limitations in their games (Kobe, Lebron, Wade, Garnett, Ray Allen, Ginobili, etc...)

I'm a huge Rockets fan and I can't wait for the day when McGrady leaves the organization. Based on last season alone, he's proven himself to be one of the most cancerous players in NBA history.

Yes and the last year of T-mac with the magic was superb (21-61 IIRC). It is easy to compair a good year of one player to one of the worst years of the other player.

Pierce had more play-off succes even without Garnett (with Antoine "I shoot 7 threes from halfcourt per game" Walker).

I do not say Pierce is much better than T-mac, but there are enough reasons to put either above the other. So you can go either way. Their career stats are pretty similar and Pierce did have more succes. So i can agree with Pierce being above T-mac.

He also said "aren't you exaggerating". It was directed at your assertion that based on last season alone he's one of the most cancerous players ever? LOL. If that's not the statement of someone sipping on some haterade, then I don't know what is.

He wasn't the one having verbal spats with his starting point guard, or running to the bus where his owner was riding with only his underwear on.
