Lets face the facts, Lakers had Kobe Bryant to close games and the Nuggets had who?

    Billups - Choked
Melo - Choked all but I think 1 game

So 1 superstar steps up on 1 team, 2 superstars don't on other team.

Talent is all well and good but you have to have superstars to win you games in the NBA, which is also why the Rockets couldn't beat the Lakers.

Not that I agree with or done this type of behavior, but if we're going to play the whole "We were better even though we lost" game, can we AT LEAST get somebody worth a damn to do the trash talking?

Denver had a chance to win that series if they could get someone smart enough to inbound the ball correctly on the last couple of possessions in two of the losses.

Carmelo isn't a guy who can lead a team to a Championship. For all the hype he gets he just isn't that good. Mentally, he can't put together a good series much less and entire playoffs.

Denver might have had a chance if Billups was 3-4 years younger but he is on the downside of his career. The burden is going to shift more and more to Melo and I don't see him being able to handle it. Denver and Carmelo will always be about "on paper" and never about wins on the court.

Denver might have been the worst 2 seed in Western Conference history.

And the 2002 Nets were the worst 1 seed ever in NBA history.

What did they have in common? K-Mart.

Man, one constant is the Nuggets whining. They did not have a better team than the Lakers, and they were damn lucky to make it to the WCF. They caught a Hornets team in full implosion mode, and they got a damn lucky break that the foul wasn't called on Buckner at the end of Game 3. If they had gone back to Enver tied 2-2, I'm not convinced they would have won that series. The West is littered with teams that made an unexpected run to the WCF but couldn't get back up the mountain because that one run was a fluke due to matchups in the first two rounds.

The Nuggets are first-round fodder this season. They will make the playoffs and probably win their division, but I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't have home court this year. Karl could never sustain continued deep runs in the playoffs. I'm also not sold on Smith and Melo. Can they keep their heads on straight for a second straight season? Can their big men stay healthy (and I'm looking at you Kenyon)? I don't think Billups is bad, but I think he's overrated as Mr. Big Shot. There's only one Big Shot, and he never played for Enver.

I'm curious to see what ownership\management does if this team flames out in the first round this season. I don't really know what their cap situation is.

Lakers should mold Kenyon a plastic gold ring with "We had a better team than the Lakers" etched on it.

he averaged 27/6/4 in the regular season. he averaged 27/5/4 in the playoffs. outside of kobe/wade/lebron, who is going to consistently give you better stats than that?

making the western conference finals isn't about "wins on the court?" are the lakers the only team from last year that was about wins on the court?

One could also argue that you simply need a superstar who will go to the line every time someone sneezes towards him. Check out the foul shot disparity between LA and Denver.

The nuggets overconfidence is a good sign they'll stand pat and thus remain on the 2nd tier of the west. Kenyon has made me sleep easier.

They're probably about even with Dallas now. Losing Kleiza is a blow IMO. Jones not so much.

Lakers only beat the Nuggets because the Rockets woke them up in a 7 game series. If the Lakers had swept Houston or close, LA loses to Denver. LA should thank Houston for helping them realize they can win a 'ship.

This is one of the lamest cliches in sports, 'we had a better team.' If you had a better, the better would've won. This is just an example of improper English usage that has stuck with bad habits, just like when athletes keep saying, 'We was'.

Getting all happy because you had two byes in the playoffs? Nice.

They didn't play a game until game one @ Staples.
