Yao brought us more on defense than he did on offense. Without Yao, I think Rockets are more like an average defensive team.
Yeah, it was a tough choice to me. Low post presence is something that is very hard to do without. I chose McGrady, but even that comes with a the assumption that you are asking us to choose between a 100% healthy (*snicker*) McGrady or Yao. It was a REALLY hard decision to me, and I only went McGrady b/c during his best times (even in a Rockets uni) he stood out as one of the best guards in a league with sooo many great guards. Yao stands out as a center sure, but the number of great centers can probably be counted up on one hand. When Yao plays great you compare him to good centers, but not greats like Dream and such. When McGrady plays great you compare him to some of the greats.
I agree that both are half court players but I do believe that Tracy will be more effective/easier to integrate into a motion offense than Yao. That's why I think Tracy is a better fit with the current roster/coach. I like Yao better as a professional but I think TMac is a better fit.
I think Yao fits like Kareem did on the Showtime Lakers, he is the anchor on D, and if the fastbreak is not there you pull it out and set it up for the big guy down low. I will take the hard working big man if I had to choose. DD
Yao, not even close. These guys are opposites, Yao is the good one and T-Mac is the bad one. T-Mac is the pathetic, lazy worker, He's a p***y as well always dodging contact not playing defense, not hustling, not to mention he constantly talks out of his ass making excuses for his pathetic inability to take his team to the 2nd round. He's a tinman just like his cousin Vince Carter. Yao is the complete opposite of that, He has heart, he doesn't play like a puss, he takes contact, he plays defense, hustles, mentally and physically tough. There's nothing that makes me want to take T-Mac over Yao, Nothing. I don't care how talented T-Mac is, because he's a p***y version of Charles Barkley.
I like that analogy, and I think if they could both stay healthy I would probably go with Yao too. The problem is I don't think Yao will ever play an entire season and that has soured me. I also think that because he is such an unusual player, it creates a bigger problem for our team to overcome when he is gone. I know that the playoffs last year make that look to be untrue but I honestly think that series with the Fakers was an aberration.
I don't care, give me one that can stay healthy. However if its based on this team, give me Yao....I mean come on we went from Yao/Deke to 29 year old Rookie/undersized (bless his heart) Chuck Hayes....... When Yao was out, we had one of the greatest defensive centers in our game as a backup....... However I might change my mind if Luther Head was our backup SG......
After Yao's epic performance in Game 1 against the Lakers I don't see how people are voting for Tracy McGrady, whose best playoff achievement was dunking/horseback riding some 7'3 stiff during a noncrucial moment of a playoff series which we didnt win.
This, If we put T-Mac in Yao's situation, he probably would've been taken out by a stretcher anyways.
