What are you trying to say though? The Xbox 360 has sold more... people obviously like it better for gaming... it's gotten better reviews as a console from numerous places. There's more people online on Xbox 360 than on PS3... regardless of the annual fee... which most people are obviously willing to pay over a free network. The MAJORITY of gamers online are FPS, except for World of Warcraft on PC... those shooter games make up a bulk of online gaming, PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. Like I said before, COD 4, GOW 2, and Halo are at the top on Xbox right now with the most people online (or the last time I checked they were)... A PS3 is solid, but a lot of people just prefer Xbox as the better gaming console, me personally, I have both, I can actually choose, but 90% of the time it's always Xbox for me. I like the controller better, I know more people on Xbox Live... I can watch movies through my Netflix account, I have 31 games for my Xbox, only 2 for PS3, but even when I rent games, I do so for Xbox unless it's unavailable. Here's a non-credible link... but just from what people have seen: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090824135324AAYXXtd For Xbox there's an actual page, I'll have to look for it. Yeah... I'm just pointing out the more popular console. People have their preferences... but the majority of people obviously pick Xbox over PS3.
Uh...what places actually review consoles? I can only think of places like CNET, and they tend to focus on the system itself (design, noise-level, multimedia features, etc.), which usually leads to the PS3 getting better reviews AFAIK. I think there are technically more PSN accounts than XBL accounts (something like 25M to 20M last I saw), but to be fair, there are a lot of issues with those numbers (PSN counts all registered accounts, XBL numbers aren't all Gold accounts, etc.). Generally speaking, probably more hardcore online gamers on XBL (i.e, play every week), but maybe more online gamers on PSN (hardcore+casual). Or at least about equal to XBL. Although that might be more of a Worldwide stat than a NA stat. I got lost in whether this argument was about online gamers or just gamers in general. I think it is definitely not true that the "FPS group" make up the majority of gamers (look at Wii and DS to see that). For online play on 360/PS3, it might be closer to the truth (and the most popular games ARE FPS games), although I still don't know if it would be the majority. Maybe 30%-40% (and represented mostly by a few games), while the rest is represented by popular games in other genres (sports, racing, fighting, action, etc.). Purely guesswork on my part of course since there aren't any real stats on this AFAIK (XBL most played rankings and Yahoo answers pages don't really give us that much credible info). As an aside, there's a problem if you've only played/own 2 PS3 games...and one of them was (I'm assuming) CoD:WaW. I hope the other one was at least one of the games mentioned in this thread (preferably something like Uncharted, Infamous, MGS4, etc.).
QFT. 360 exclusives are fantastic! However, PS3 exclusives like Uncharted and Killzone are awesome as well! Multi-platform games are definitely superior on the 360 though thanks to Live.
I big thing for me too, since I have both systems, is that no one on PSN has a mic, absolutely no one. Most people on xbox Live have mics which makes online gaming significantly better. Some games simply cannot be played online without mics, and some games are playable but just much better off when everyone has mics.
why when your ps3 can do it? i never hooked up my ps1 becuase my ps2 was backwards compatible. it was very convenient
As I said before, please explain what gametypes you are playing that make use of 22 million players? Once you get to a certain number of users on any system, you won't have any issue finding players to join your game.
I'm a PS3 guy, but this is where Xbox does have PS3 beat. Sony should have included a bluetooth headset at launch. A great game like Fat Princess would be so much better if everybody had a mic. But I guess that's just me being greedy. As for the OP, you should check out Flower on PSN especially if you have a good speaker system. It'll blow your mind.
You're right. It has sold more. I would think though that the year head start and cheaper price would have something to do with that. The year was huge. Watch now that the price drop finally came for the PS3 how the sales numbers change. Everyone I know is deciding on the PS3 over the 360 these days. With the games on the way, it looks like that will continue. I won't argue with you, but lets see how things play out.
As far as game recommendations so far: Uncharted is overrated by PS3 fans, Ratchet/Clank, Infamous, Valkyrie Chronicles are awesome. Haven't yet played Killzone 2 or Little Big Planet, though I hear good things. Not sure I'm interested in MGS4, but if you like the series I'm sure it's worth a look. Can't really think of any other major exclusives currently available off the top of my head. Also, though it might not be your style, I am enjoying the new Katamari Damacy too.
Ok, so are the "non-slim" PS3's on sale now anywhere, or are they still the same price as the slim ones?
Well.. besides Cnet.. a lot of tech-savvy places review things like game systems. PC World for example has done it... there's a few other places in magazines, they don't rate by numbers but by words. But, I won't argue if that the Xbox 360 is worse than the PS3... that's anyone opinion. I'll just let the numbers speak. All the other stuff is debatable.. I can agree with some of your points. As for the 2 games... I've only owned 2 games.. the other one is Resistance..(the first one). I've rented a lot of games for the PS3.
Well, that's true... but it's better to have a variety of people.. some games on PS3, you just get the same people in the same matches sometimes. NBA 2K9 for example... at one point, (and it was midday) I got to play the same guy 3 TIMES. 3... never experienced anything like that on Xbox. Yeah you're right, you don't need too many people for one game online... but Xbox just provides more, gives you a chance to play with other people.
I know that several tech-oriented web-sites, magazines, etc., review game consoles. My point was that 1) I haven't really seen "numerous" places say the 360 was the better console, and 2) Whatever these reviews say, they don't really matter much anyway IMO given that they usually just review the basic hardware features of the system, not what makes the console great. On top of that, a few of the reviews I glanced at were from 2005 and 2006, which are beyond pointless if you actually wanted to compare the consoles on what they're capable of doing today. No Uncharted, Gears of War, Halo 3, RRoD, PS2 BC removal, etc. I was hoping that was the case (I rented a lot of PS3 games too, especially early on), although given that you owned 31 360 games, I assumed you were one that preferred to buy games. (and why'd you buy CoD:WaW instead of R2? )
Someone persuaded me to buy it, I don't even play it... lol... right now I don't even have time for video games. Hopefully I'll be getting MW2 this november and something exciting can come of that. Only thing I got time for right now is possibly NBA 2k10.
Same here. I already have a huge backlog, but I already preordered Demon's Souls and NBA 2K10 (need to figure out what I'll do for U2, R&C, and BL as well). No idea when I'll actually get time to play them. 'Tis the curse of being a PS3 owner. Can't find time to play games when we're all working two jobs.
