Sorry I really don't understand how Radiohead "sold out". They have always done their own thing and their latest, In Rainbows has kept to that standard. Just because a band has a hit song doesn't mean they sold out.
calling Radiohead a sellout is like calling Britney Spear a classic vocalist. sellouts do it for ....Money. Radiohead basically gave away In Rainbows Thom Yorke has purposely worked hard to avoid the limelight. No way Radiohead are sellouts.
So I see you guys didn't notice the emoticon tongue out thingy included in my original post. I was never serious. How is that statement even remotely serious. Technically it makes sense. But to think its serious? Radiohead fans
They are definitely the biggest sellout band- as in, they're SELLING OUT STADIUMS when other bands are struggling to fill arenas to even 1/2 capacity.
i wouldn't call u2 a sellout, they just stopped producing good records a long time ago. ...for me, green day has to be the biggest sellout band on the planet. at first, when dookie came out they put on their mtv-tailored punk outfits, and then when their populartiy began to fall, they dressed up as emos and released all those lame (and of course very successful) records.
Kinda funny that Pearl Jam is referred to as a sellout when they basically abandoned Ticketmaster back in the day to do their own thing because they thought fans were being ripped off by service charges. Also, they essentially didn't make a music video after "Ten." And how is doing an exclusive with one store selling out? Doesn't it make your album LESS accessible??
That doesn't matter. Target is "uncool". If it was a store that the little white liberal snits found acceptable, like Apple, then it wouldn't be a problem.

The saddest one for me is Kings of Leon. I used to really like them. Their latest album is horrible. It might as well be Celine Dion. Listen to "Bucket" and then listen to "Use Somebody" or "Sex on Fire". They are just another over produced pop band now.
Did you listen to NIN's last album? It was utter and complete garbage, too bad... his earlier stuff was exceptional
I agree with all of this. Metallica evolved IMO. They already were at the top of their game and seemed to just relax and do what they wanted. Everyone else be damned. As Harrisment pointed out, these guys grow up. I know I am not the same guy at 20 that I am at 31 and I doubt I will be the same at 40 as I am now. Deftones was a great, great example of a band that does what they do. It doesn't always work but you can tell it came from a genuine place. and LMAO at the Sugar Ray post. The lead singer is the freaking host of Entertainment Tonight now.
I think the sellouts are the folks downloading music illegally causing these good bands to try and make one good song. Then hopefully getting their crap on the radio noticed and ran 50 times a day...over and over again. Step away from the radio and run my friends. Moballs the sellout.
so b/c the album isn't good that constitutes NIN as sellouts? you sure you know what "sellout" means? kings of leon immediately came to mind... as others have said, their first two albums are fantastic. the latest album is pure pop ****. they have some seriously rocking tunes on youth & young manhood and aha shake heartbreak... the new album sounds like it was written specifically for girls aged 14-25. hell they went from scraggly hair and tshirts to $400 haircuts and a dolce & gabana wardrobe.
nin did NOT sell out. Perhaps some of his music lost a bit of its edge recently. It's not surprising that, at 40 yrs old, he doesn't have the same angry, youthful edge. But he sure as hell didn't sell out.
