I have trouble viewing anything on the net with my WMP. Here's the error I get:

windows media player cannot play this file. connect to the internet (i'm already connected) or insert the removable media on which the file is located, and then try again.

I'll then get a message saying "work offline" or "try again".

Nothing seems to work. I have no problems viewing some of the same files with RealPlayer but I'd prefer WMP for sites that don't use RealPlayer.

    Any ideas??

    Thanks,
    os

    OS,

    A couple of questions:

What version of WMP are you using?

What type of file are you trying to playback?

MP can't play back some types of files (such as Quicktime and Real Audio).

I'm pretty sure I have the lastest version of WMP.

I'm trying to play audio files from a site that has WMP as an option. When it also lists Real Player as an option the file works. So to answer your question, I can't play files that should be playable on WMP.

    thanks,
    os

Better stick to questions about home improvement...

So, what kind of lawn mower did you end up getting? :D

    Old school,

This is pretty obvious, but try going to to Tools/Options/Network and see whether the "Use ports .....to receive data" box is checked. If it is, try unchecking it and see what happens.

Mine is not checked, but the port is listed as 7000-7001. Might be worth trying that.

Also, where it says "Select the protocols to receive dtreaming media" mine has multicast, udp, tcp and http, all checked.

    Hope this helps

Edit - I heard somewhere that when you install Realplayer, it does some nasty things to your Windows Media Player set-up and vice versa.

I ended up getting a pretty sweet used Murray mower from the in-laws, one they never used much. It needed a tune up of sorts but is running great now.

    Thanks for asking!
