You have officially lost your mind. A nuclear Iran likely is the beginning of an attack on Israel. That is why Presidents of both parties have uniformly stated that a nuclear Iran is not acceptable.

How soon we are to forget how nutty Iran is. Name another country (a theocracy no less) that held US citizens hostage. Not a group of guerrillas, but an actual government.

Yeah, a nuclear Iran is such a great idea. There is only one word that comes to mind. Wow.

You are stuck in the past. Iran is NOT the same country that took Americans hostage OVER 30 YEARS AGO. Didn't you learn anything during the election protests? Iran has come a very long way and it's people don't walk around shouting "Death to America" at the drop of a hat. Please come into the present. Your view of Iran is "nutty".

Regarding a nuclear attack on Israel, I doubt the mullahs want to do that. They want the increased leverage and power having nukes would give them in the region. It would make Iran the undisputed leader of Islamic countries in the Middle East. Iran has seen Pakistan and India develop nukes and want them too. Those in authority know good and well if they nuked Israel it would be the end of them, and of Iran as country.

That all said, Obama and allies have to pull out all the stops now to prevent or slow down what may be inevitable. A military attack on Iran's nuclear sites will only slow them down a year or two.

    I missed this earlier.

I don't dispute the possibility the world could live with a nuclear Iran, but I gotta say it's a huge stretch to think it would help the peace process. That is crazy stuff. Do you know who's in charge in Iran? You actually think they want anything less than to impose their will on Israel, the Arab states and anyone else they could intimidate? Understandably, both Israel and the Arabs are scared to death of a nuclear Iran.

Feel free to correct me. I'd like to understand how giving more power and influence to the mullahs and Ahmadinejad would help the world.

Most of you guys are completely nuts, but even that doesn't match the insane in attacking Iran because they want nuclear energy, which is perfectly legal.

The attack on Iran will happen because of many reasons:

    1. Israel wants to bomb Iran because they THINK THEY know that Iran will bomb them with nukes if they ever got one or two. Iran usually have at least one day a year were people on the streets yell “death to Israel” and have a big parade with large missiles with the same message. If I were the Israeli PM, I would of course be nervous and I would have wanted to bomb Iran’s nuke-facilities too.

    2. Some commanders think Iran is a threat to allied forces in Iraq or Afghanistan. Iran is often accused to support insurgency-groups in Iraq and in Afghanistan.

    3. Iran is dominating force in the region and is operating as an opposite force to U.S and Israel that wants to dominate the region (of course). Don’t forget that U.S. will strike down on anyone who threatens their domination.

    4. Iran’s oil. The prize for coorperations and invaders if the war will come. Come and get it boys and get rich! Oil is needed for the very huge US-military-force and for the biggest economy on the planet to expand further. Without it, it will stand still.

    5. If Iran get nukes, no-one will probably attack Iran, and therefore US/Israel cannot continue to dominate the region in the future without enormous cost and losses. This is of course unacceptable.

There are probably many more reasons why the U.S (or NATO) want to attack Iran, but the one most important is the threat, that Israel sense steaming from Iran.

I quote a wise man I once knew who immigrated here from Iran...

"Eighty percent of the country is Western in their thinking. It is the other 20% that has the guns and the power."

Can't argue with that. We can hope the 80% claim their country before it's too late.

The problem is that he has been saying the same thing for the last 20 years. He is a business associate of my father.

He still has family in Iran. The fact that he has been saying the same thing for the last 20 years does not give me a lot of hope for the foreseeable future.

I've traveled the world and spoken with a great many people from many nations and met expats here who are fatalistic about their homelands. You can't take their opinion for everything. A lot of countries have changed radically in the last 20 years, beyond what we could have imagined. There are people from Iran who believe the days of the Islamic Republic are numbered, especially because of the election fiasco. I agree with them. How much time nobody knows.

Let us hope that the change happens soon. A fanatic, oppressive regime with nukes scares the crap out of me.

After the election fiasco, the last bit of the democratic element of the islamic republic is gone forever. despite there brutality, they could have argued that we have elections that are free and fair(which it was'nt since the candidates were handpicked by the gurdian council). but that argument is finished... it's a tottal military dictatorship now.

The Iranian people took out the shah with his incridibely armed and well trained army. they'll take these dictators down as well. granted shah was, far less, less, less bruital then these people.
