Woman charged after fatally shooting husband in scare attempt

    By DALE LEZON HOUSTON CHRONICLE
    Sept. 25, 2009, 11:43AM

A woman who said she wanted to scare her husband when she pulled a gun on him as he ironed his pants has been charged with killing him.

Gwendolyn Guyton, 23, is charged with murder in the slaying of Mitchell Lovell Johnson, 28, at the couple's home in the 7000 block of Inwood Park Drive about 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Johnson was shot in the stomach and was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Guyton is in the Harris County jail in lieu of $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Investigators said that Guyton initially said that the shooting was an accident. She later admitted that she had pulled out the pistol and fired at Johnson to scare him after the couple had argued.

Johnson was in the upstairs bedroom and was ironing his jeans when the shooting happened. He had planned to leave the house.

Three of the couple's four small children, including 2-year-old twin boys, and two other adults were in the home when gunfire erupted. But no one was in the bedroom with the couple.

Guyton called police after the shooting and waited at the home for officers to arrive.

    ======================
I was going to follow this story since yesterday, as it didn't have this much detail... only that it was "accidental" until today.

Note to self: if arguing with Mrs. SwoLy, leave quickly even if the shirt is wrinkled. :(

I know it's callous, but the jean thing struck me as odd too. No racial connection. Just the bizarre scenario that you're in the midst of an argument so heated you're about to leave the house -- but first you've got to iron those jeans???

there's a perception that certain people like to press creases into the leg cuffs of their jeans with starch...

my friend's family owns a dry cleaner and he once told me that black people bring in jeans and ask for extra extra extra starch on their jeans to the point of it feeling like cardboard...

That's funny because I used to know some super rednecks that did the same thing. Only they didn't take their jeans to their cleaners, they had their women do it for them. (True story)

Having gone to college at A&M I can attest to the veracity of this statement.

Correction - some people think it's weird to iron blue jeans. There was a beer company that had a series of commercials that featured very macho men like Burt Reynolds, Triple H, etc and one of their rules was that men were to NEVER iron jeans.

    Prison Mike might be.
    We're talkin' bout JEANS, man.

We're sitting here, and I'm supposed to be the franchise clutchfan, and we're talking about jeans. I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about jeans, not all clothes, not all clothes, not all clothes, but we're talking about jeans. Not the clothes that I iron every day like it's my last change of clothes but we're talking about jeans man. How silly is that? :(

I don't think I've ever ironed any clothes ever.

    Wrinkles just add character.
