    pmac, calm yourself.
First, nobody talks to MadMax that way. He will cut you.
Second, I found the "That's no moon" reference "very funny", even more-so than TBS standards .
Third, I found the "This is real folks" reference funny as well.
Fourth, nobody talks to MadMax that way. He will cut you.

the hard sciences are my achilles heel, so excuse my bewilderment at the fact that this has been pushed to page 2 with only joking responses - this is a pretty big deal, right?

The leading idea for the source of water on Earth is that late in it's formation, the Earth was bombarded with water-rich bodies from the outer solar system that were kicked towards the Earth by gravitational interaction with Jupiter.

    That's what I was thinking.

    1. How come this is not on the front page of every newspaper?
    2. Its still making water. What does that mean?
    3. India's space program was able to find this on their first lunar mission? Wow..
    4. If it took us this long to confirm water on the moon, then we really don't know anything about the other planets, etc.
    5. Doesn't water mean life?

It is not surprising considering the latest theory on the moon was that at one point it was a part of the earth that was knocked off when a planet about the size of Mars collided with the Earth and tilted us and got us spinning...the debris from that collision became the moon.

yeah i know, but its the single most important factor i would think. now i'm not saying there is life on moon, but mars could have water as well and some sort of primitive life forms.

(again, excuse my ignorance on this, but from what little i do remember), while the existence of water isn't sufficient for the sustenance of life, it's the primary necessary factor, right...?

from my limited exposure, i would have thought news like the discovery of water on the moon would have been huge, like 'cure for cancer', 'this is the biggest discovery of the decade' type huge.

Some scientists are calling it the most significant lunar discovery in many decades. But I believe water has been discovered on other moons. There's strong evidence that Mars used to have water as well, I believe.

Until they find good waves for surfing I'm not going.

(but this could lead to the first person being baptized on the moon :) )

Very interesting. I didn't realize this was now the leading idea, though this is the idea I always found most fascinating.

There is life out there my friends.
