Wow so you are basically saying the Rockets suck??? From my understanding, teams that "suck" are perennial bottom dwellers such as the Clippers, Knicks, Twolves, Grizzlies, Nets, etc whom have poor front offices making decisions for the team and can't put a winning team on the court consistently. Be thankful that you have a perennial 50+ win team as your hometown team that overcomes some sort of unexpected adversity each year to surprise everyone on the court with whatever the active roster happens to be. The Rockets are NOT like bottom dwellers nor do they resemble the Texans/recent Astros.
So the Rockets haven't won a championship. We've still been competitive almost every year since 2003, and we've done it the right way with a team philosophy steeped in defense. To put it in football terms, the Rockets the past 7 years or so would be the Ravens or Panthers or Titans, a competitive defensive team that hasn't won it all yet. For reference's sake, the Suns would be the Eagles, which makes complete sense since Phoenix would have derived all its bad karma from the Philly fans .
Happy bday Rashad! I had high hopes for you and always wanted the rox to pick you up! Can't believe you where waived? Uh, good for us!
Another Great move by morey i know Mccants i remember him from college...i always use to wonder why no one wanted him and why he comes off the bench he can easily start in this league if he wasnt a headcase... hes a real scoring threat fills it up in a hurry...if he sticks i see him being last years version of Von... but better...hopefully minus the locker room issues..which coincidentally is the case for both Von and Mccants
I like this signing. Low risk high reward. He seems to be a better shooter compare to Von. He also seems to be able to create his own shot better than Von. I really like Rudy Fernandez playing for the Rockets but RM may be better than Rudy if he keeps his head straight.
moving Landry to make room for Pops would be a r****ded move. they'll look to move the expiring contracts of Barry and Cook. Either way those 2 don't finish the season with Houston.
Unless moving Landry + whomever else yields us an even better player or more cap flexibility next year or a first round pick next year or any combination thereof.
Thanks for the read. I found the 2005 draft report interesting as well. They compared him to Cat Mobley and McCants didn't come off well. Back then, they were looking at whether he could be a starter at the 2, like Cat, but at this point, he's being looked at as a spark off the bench. If McCants can just keep his head on straight, I think he can do a terrific job as a scorer with the second unit.
I think people are getting ahead of themselves, assuming he's going to make the team. The Rockets coaches really like the drafted rookies. Pops has been working with the team for a while, and they really like what he brings. They would need to find a taker for Brian Cook (not so easy) to sign McCants and Pops (or McCants and one of the other guards that were brought in). There's probably a better than even chance McCants doesn't make it. He needs to make a very good impression on the coaches -- hopefully he's matured and can do it.
"Defense: Has the length, strength and athleticism to be extremely effective on the wing. Appears to put good effort into this end of the floor at times and possesses good smarts and fundamentals, making him fairly capable when he wants to be. Takes possessions off on the defensive end, like everyone on Minnesota, but is an asset when he comes to play. Closes out under control and does a good job contesting shots and denying penetration. Makes up for his lack of prototypical size with his excellent wingspan. Uses his body extremely well, and will force his man to change directions when he seems to be beat. Will show extremely active hands in bursts. Doesn’t come over to help out from the weakside. Caters his defense to his matchup, showing great intensity when he’s guarding an elite player, but relaxing when he’s posed with a player that won’t score much. Does a good job recognizing his matchup, playing off players who aren’t shooters and crowding those that are. Not going to force many turnovers. Won’t rebound the ball at a very good rate at all. A cerebral defender that maintains good position, and knows what it takes to get the job done. Needs to avoid taking nights off and letting lesser players score on him when he’s not focused. Would help him to have a shot-blocking presence behind him to help out when he gets beat." You might be underrating his defense a bit. He is a much better defender than say Von Wafer, although he is not the same kind of athlete...
I see Morey working, he's trying to get the Rockets some run from the Kardashian chick that hates McCants after he cheated on her.
Really like the player, but rox is too stack at the 2/3/4. And the 1/5 spot is not properly covered. With only AB/lowry at the point and Anderson/Dorsey both that have yet to prove themself in the nba as the only center coverage. There is a huge possibility that a trade is coming soon. With the signing of Mchants and Pops at positions that already is overload with players. I really hope there will be a trade.
Rashad: Better be watching your own backyard, Lamar. I'm willing to do whatever Morey asks me for a spot on the roster.
