Bet u anything its against the law to sac-chase. V.3, i'm happily married with kids and i'm not into the gay thing. If it turns u on to stalk what I say or put another grown man into your thoughts constantly, I wish I had help for you. Anytime you want to discuss basketball and learn about hoops, which I doubt you ever played past jr high, I'm here to help you and the other sac chasers.
They can trade Cook for a player making as little as $2.72M. But why would the other team want to pay $780k more for Brian Cook? And if the lower salaried player has additional years on his contract, why would Morey want to strap his cap flexibility just to save $1.5M this year? I think I've already been pretty clear about the fact that Cook COULD be combined with other players, but no one wants Cook as part of a package unless it is absolutely necessary.
Wow. This is from the guy who posts about promoting peaceful conversations. It's ok leebigez, your status as the resident wannabe GM is secure. In other words, lighten up, it's only basketball.
Great signing for low risk, big reward. McCant, S.May and R.Felton, all have fallen fast except Felton, but DJ Augustin might take the job from him. I really can't wait for the upcoming season because I want to see a Yao-less Rockets team (win/lose).
Probably. If it took a high second rounder plus cash to dump Steve Francis's $2.6M salary last season, my guess is that it would take at least that to dump Brian Cook's $3.5M salary. Under the cap teams realize the situation that teams like the Rockets are in. They know that a guy like Cook will cost the team double (plus, if the team could otherwise get under the tax threshold, the lost shared tax revenues), so they pretty much know they have the tax-strapped team over a barrel. Brian Cooks' expiring contract having VALUE? Get real. That thing is an outright albatross. (Still, the team is basically getting two players this year - Kyle Lowry and Cook - for around the price they'd be paying Rafer this year anyway.)
See what did the Nuggets give up to get rid of Hunter. The guy has a 3.7m expiring contract which is very similar to Cook's. http://www.prosportstransactions.co...Day=&EndYear=&EndMonth=&EndDay=&submit=Search
Yeah, I think less is going to put the heat on to get under that lux tax. I guess the deal is going to come down something like the francis deal unless he is combined with another player that another teams might want. I can't see les paying the tax at any rate.
I actually think Les will end up paying the tax for the first time this season. He's currently further over the tax threshold than he ever has been. In prior years, the team was only $1-2M over. Now, the team is about $5-6M over. Big difference. It also looks like Les is willing to spend this year to "invest" in the future of the franchise. Hence, the purchases of the rights to Taylor, Llull, Budinger and Andersen. The insurance proceeds on Yao's contract should help. If Morey manages to get under the tax this February, I'd be surprised. But he's surprised me before.
BimaThug , I think if this team was close to contention, I think les would pay the tax. I think its going to be a dump or a combo with a very useful player this year. I can't see les paying 10m for a boderline playoff team.
Sure, Les wants Morey to TRY to get under the tax if possible. But it would likely cost the team significantly long term. We're talking multiple first rounders and/or a good player. I don't think Les is THAT desperate.
Other than CBud, This is the most exciting move potential-wise to me this summer, of all the small moves that is. I have always though McCants had the talent to be a player in this league and I do think he will end up playing some bench minutes this year.
Contention? Yao breaks his foot every season. Chuck Hayes/Stromile Swift/Dorsey manning the C spot. There is no good C like C on the roster. Battier is a worse than the top 15 SG/SFs of other teams. Landry is undersized. Scola is slow. Brooks isn't a pg. It might be good for the moneyball trophy, but it hasn't beaten the Lakers. Being close doesn't count. I am tired of the moral victories.
We went 7 games and gave them the toughest fight in the playoffs. With only roughly 30% of our capspace playing at the time. If you don't like moneyball why don't you do everyone here a favor and go follow another team, like the Lakers you seem to like so much?
It's like being an Texans' and Astros' fan. You know they suck, but it's still your hometown team. You can't going to throw the baby out with the bath water, because the management can't put together championship team and they keep making the same mistakes. You just got to keep watching them lose and drink a few more beers.
Well then you're pretty luck to have the Rockets as your hometown team then. I don't know why you write about the Rockets as if they're some kind of lottery team when we've been one of the top 4-5 in the league the past 4 years.
