i think the risk in that would be correcting it now, with training camp and the season almost here. Any adjustments will be wiped out or cause confusion within his body because he's going to be trying to play ball instinctively, which is how it's suppose to be .....hopefully its something they adress more completely in the offseason

Surprise, surprise... a doctor uses a golf story to help explain a theory.

If we had Darryl Eto a few years ago, they could have fixed Yao, T-Mac, and Sura, and Battier's running form, which could have eased the stress on their bodies.

If it was just due to fluke injuries and poor dedication, then they wouldn't need to change the running form of the players to lower the risk of injuries. They could maintain the same patterns. After all, why risk a new running form for the players in only a few weeks, which could cause injury? It's better to just hire another trainer, and leave the form the same and play tag and pads to hit players on layups, if the new running form isn't going to help.

There's less of an edge if other teams are learning from you; Morey needs to quit marketing himself and let the results speak.

The information comes from the Rockets. :(

Maybe us fans are being fed a line of bull**** from the Rockets.
It would just be more of the bull*** that they have been feeding us about trying to win a championship.

i wouldn't go so far as to say any of it is b.s. but changing the way an athlete runs is a more complicated thing than you are giving it credit for, and won't really have the benefits that you seem to think it will. it doesn't ease that much stress when you realize how many comparatively much more stressful movements basketball players make repeatedly. jumping, cutting, falling, shuffling, reaching, twisting, etc are the things that are most stressful and lead to injury. doesnt it make a lot more sense to train basketball players functionally as a preventative measure as opposed to wasting time with how they run specifically?

i'll ask you this, how many injuries due to poor running form have you seen while watching the NBA? I can't think of a single one.

also, if you think having a more "track and field" running style means less injuries, then clearly you don't watch track and field. they have a ton of lower body injuries due to guess what: wear and tear. the physical demands that competing in a major sport in the 21st century place on a human body take their toll, no matter what.

I'm sure this was brought on in part by Tracy's and Yao's injuries.

It's looking like both Tracy's back and knee injuries were exacerbated by his personal trainer's horrible advice. I remember a couple seasons ago seeing video of his weight training workout... many people commented on the terrible form he was using. Now the word in all of the news blurbs from Chicago is that Tracy had absolutely no zero core strength. A professional trainer should be more than a motivator - especially for an all-star BB player.

Regarding the comment about Yao's foot injury. I doubt that his running form contributed significantly to the injury. I think it was mentioned in a Chronicle article that the foot that has been broken twice had a structural problem that caused excessive stress on the navicular bone. The other foot did not have the same problem, and therefore never broke. Regular folks might have the same structural problem, but it would never result in a break.

i think we're missing the point of changing running form...its not as much about preventing injuries as it is about making movements more efficient and therefore conserving energy. Sometimes running form can't be just changed by the player thinking about it, you've got to train the muscles accordingly and i think that should make these guys more efficient mechanically all over the court.

you are absolutely right, but again, the marginal benefit to this seems minimal.

they are already highly conditioned athletes, that are the top 1% at what they do. you just dont get to this level unless your body is fairly sound and athletic. i cant see retraining them to run making them a whole lot better at it. also, when you retrain the muscles, isn't it possible that you may cause side effects in jumping ability or lateral movement? is it really worth taking the risk?

at the end of the day, i see their job as playing basketball. if you want to make them better basketball players, then i'm down with that. but spending a bunch of time training them to run for such a minimal return isn't worth it imo. that time could be better spent in many other ways that would actually help much more with basketball.

I think Houston is willing to try anything that improves their players, even if its only a small improvement. That's what they've been doing, they take a guy like dorsey, improve him a little bit here and there in different areas, and all of sudden they have a much improved ball player that they got at a great value.

I dont think re training their muscles will have a negative effect if done properly. Like i posted earlier, it would be best to do it in the offseason, when they have time to work on that without having practice and play. It should improve them since you're really just getting them back to the body's natural position/movements.

Let's say u tweak their feet/legs, and that develops problems. It more than likely will be because something in their upper body was not corrected as well. A messed up muscle in your neck could possibly affect your legs. So as long as they work on them as a whole i think it's only going to make them better.

Since when is learning proper running form new and modernized? I played and graduated in 2001, we did running technique and speed drills for all 5 years in college and 2 years (after a new head coach in football that is) in high school. Modernized? I don't get it, but remember, Daryl will self promote himself and anyone he hires.

Ok, I have revised it to replace stress with "wear and tear" and form with "style".

but you're assuming sura and battier have/had an incorrect running style to fix in the first place.....tmac prob did, yao maybe...but just because Eto mentioned that it doesnt mean EVERY rocket needs to change their form..
