Brazil was the best team in this World Cup, so they deserve to win it. Obviously, I am quite sad right now because Germany had a good run, considering that other teams had more stars and heralded players. Our team spirit and heart made up for some technical deficiencies and Oliver Kahn helped this team to get to the finals. Therefore nobody in Germany will blame him for his mistake that ultimately cost us the game. We got further than England, Argentina, France and others. I think Germany played a brave game today and actually controlled the game for a long time. Schneider sometimes looked like a Brazilian out there. Everybody played their hearts out. The commentators saying that only Brazil played was ridiculous. Maybe Ballack could have made a difference today, but it should not be. We have a lot of young, promising players, so I am really looking forward to 2006 in Germany. In 2006, Germany will win the World Cup.
Ronaldo 2 knee surgeries and still just as explosive- so many heart stopping opportunities for both teams - that was an Unbelievable game!
And by the way, no wonder soccer is not popular enough in the USA. The way ABC was presenting the game was a total joke. I am sorry, but for example in baseball, US TV reports and discusses every fart a player does and for the World Cup Final Brazil vs. Germany, the single event watched by most people around the world at the same time EVER, they do not even show the national anthems, the celebration, the awarding of the cup - nothing. How do you expect people to get a feeling for the beautiful game if you hide the emotions and everything around it? Then, during the game, they show a bunch of announcements about some golf tournament - that's like announcing during the super bowl that you will broadcast the Utah Starzz against the Cleveland whatever team next week. Then "We want to thank our sponsors for allowing to broadcast this game without interruption". Ridiculous. Also, this one guest they had in the studio was a total jerk, completely biased towards Brazil, showing no respect for the performance of the other team. Low class. Anyway, Ronaldo is incredibly dangerous and explosive, what can I say. An amazing talent. He made the difference by himself. With him on the German team, we win.
I'm sorry to the German fans. I flipped a coin and had Germany as my team in the WC final. No wonder they lost. Brazil vs Germany - Heath: Germany, Winner: Brazil (turkey vs south korea) Brazil vs Turkey - Heath: Turkey, Winner: Brazil (germany vs south korea) Spain vs South Korea - Heath: Spain, Winner: South Korea Brazil vs England - Heath: England, Winner: Brazil Germany vs USA - Heath: USA, Winner: Germany (senegal vs turkey) ok 3 of the last 8, but the percentages was against me But a big one from the round before: Italy vs South Korea - Heath: Italy, Winner: South Korea I also know that my 'team' in this round lost out in atleast 3 other games, and then I have the other 4 games uncounted for as I cant remember who they beat, odds are atleast 2 of those was against my team. So next WC I'm cheering for Brazil from the get go. They will not win a single game.
I agree. ABC's broadcast was pretty horrendous...I had to switch over to the spanish channel for the cup presentation. Anywayz Congrats Brasil, and I can't wait for 2006! (when i hopefully can attend the event itself) <crosses fingers>
I agree 100% ABC was pathetic how can you not even show the trophy presentation. I switched to the Canadian channel at half time. Thak god for the Canadians.
Congrats Brasil, but I really don't care. I'll take this opportunity to congratulate them on having a HOT womens team. Lucky bastids.
I don't give a flip either....so... congrats brazil... now tell Ronaldo to finish getting his hair cut....
I doubt its gonna happen anytime soon Gabriel Oliveira, 13, gets a haircut in the style of Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Friday, June 28, 2002. The unusual hair style has become a hit in Brazil after Ronaldo, who leads the World Cup in goals, cut his hair.
Don't bother with ABC/ESPN - most of them wouldn't know decent soccer if it fell out of the sky, went up to them, and kicked them in the ass and yelled, "I'M DECENT SOCCER". Their coverage has been poor, so usually I turn on the Spanish Channell, mute the sound, and put in a CD to listen to. I didn't really know who to cheer for - on one hand, the German team is scrappy, and I like to watch Oliver Kahn play, but they play such a boring style at times. I kind of want to cheer for the Brazilians, because I like their style of ball, and I'm glad to see Ronaldo back - but I rarely like to cheer for the favorites. So instead, I cheered for a good game, redemption for Ronaldo, and Peirluggi Collina.
Also, does Ronaldo have a chance to be The Best Ever? If he stays healthy, it will be something to watch.
man, africa was robbed of hosting the 2006 world cup finals. I knew it would be between some euro team, and some south american team. it is always been like that. ESPN/ABC is piss-poor. Jack Edwards is kind of weak. That one guy that says GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!!!! can speak english. Why doesn't he call the games in english, and do his goooooooooaaaaaaaaaaall thing. I would like to see the United States host it again in 2010, or 2014.
Jack Edwards and Ty Keough sucked. Jack Edwards voice cracks whenever somebody scores a goal...he's still going thru puberty. Keough sounds like he's the holy grail of soccer. ABC should get JP Dellacamera and Tommy Smyth as the head broadcasting team. JP has a good announcing voice and u can't have soccer broadcasting without an Irish accent!
guys ronaldo's play was s-l-o-w and sluggish. i think he's a bit heavy. he was definitely better 4 years ago.
One reason that soccer isn't popular: in some markets, they didn't even show the game live. Well, because it's one of the biggest games in the whole world, eight of us decided to throw a party and stay up through the entire night to watch the game. Two people even had face paint-- the whole works. So, everything is set up, the food is there, and it's time to watch the game, right? Wrong... at 6 am in the morning, apparently the five people that get up to watch some preacher (that isn't even local) are worth more than seeing the biggest game in the entire world that comes along once every four years live. This may not be Houston, but Beaumont is a reasonably big city... 120,000 people not counting metro... so who knows how many cities across the country had this same problem. So, we all head out to the local ABC station, assuming they would have the common decency to let us in and watch the feed from the national network. Wrong again. We didn't show up with anger or resentment; rather, we tried to calmly explain the importance of the game and the importance of seeing it live. Nothing. Well, we called and woke up about five houses before finally finding someone with a satelitte feed about 15 miles out of town. By going about 95 down the freeway, we managed to make it in by the start of the second half. That's the struggle a lot of people had to go through just to see one of the biggest games in the entire world live.
The World Cup is my second favorite sporting event behind March Madness-- and I'm nothing but a Soccer Dad. Questions: 1. Why don't they change the game-timing situation? What year was it that stop-watches were invented? Are they drowning in tradition? 2. Two hard fouls (Yellow Cards) and you miss the next game. Imagine that in basketball. I realize that the fouls in soccer are more dangerous and the scoring opportunities more prized, but... Sorry that Bollock couldn't play for the Germans. BTW, why did the take Klose out? Was he just exhausted? They took out that other guy, too... Niehaus (or something like that). World Cup in German should be great. Yeah, let's bring it back to the US. I'll have two girls (hopefully) playing soccer by 2010.
