it's interesting because almost every mention i have seen of these, it seems there was almost unanimous appreciation of these uniforms. i personally find them absolutely gorgeous. they boast our traditional gold and red in the perfect quantities, and combine impeccable lettering against the backdrop of the PERFECT cut for a basketball jersey. these had the classic look for the timeless feel that all of the 'storied' franchises are now sporting. i thought they had absolutely hit a homerun with these in every aspect, so you can imagine my surprise when we never saw them again. were they worn merely for a special promotion those few nights? nothing can top the original championship threads, but since the team is so intent on change, i would be absolutely delighted to see these become our primary uniforms. i think sales on these would absolutely go through the roof. they feature both the subdued stoicism demanded by the older generation and the classic 'throwback' look in vogue with the younger generation. what do you all think?
They weren't alternates, they were THROWBACKS: The reason they had a classic and timeless look is because they actually were classic jerseys. They wore them from 71' through 72'
early poll results are in: 10 out of 11 like them. unheard of for most uniforms. someone get tad brown (is it tad brown?) on the phone.
Alternate jerseys are just to increase sales. I also like the look of these jerseys cause they have an old school feel to it. However, I will say that I bought one of these jerseys and the shoulder cut offs are not what they look like in that picture.
Am I on ignore or something? It's not "old school feeling" or "old school looking." They are the old jerseys of the Rockets' first season in Houston.
Those are by far my favorite jerseys. Much better than what we have or this new alternate. The organization again wants to be cute rather than actually listening to what the fans want.
Yeah, I had forgotten that these were actually retro-jerseys, not alternates. No wonder I thought they looked old-school. I like the new alternates. Would have preferred the jersey number in white, and limiting the yellow to trim and (maybe) highlighting the fonts. But it achieves its purpose -- keeping to the current jersey's style, while reminding of the championship years.
The alternate should have been an update of this gem from 72-75 Doesn't remind you of McDonald's as much, but it's starting to grow on me.
The answer in my heart is compared to all Rockets uniforms "I like them a lot". I think that uni is a nice template for a classic uniform. You can update and down-date that design in many ways. You can add updated space age Rockets touches, you can keep it by itself and just get a nice logo to complement the look. I just like symmetry and blocky designs I guess. Being ever so discerning, as its own jersey by itself no team affiliation I just chose "I like them" in the poll. But it'd easily be "I like them a lot!" if the yellow and white were reversed. Thats my opinion as well. We're allowed to compare and contrast, but no doubt the new alternate served its purpose of reminding me of the championship years. That alone gets me to like it. From a distance the slanted HOUSTON looks like a regular font, and the yellow is a natural correlation. They'll look nice on TV.
I would be extremely happy to have these as our jerseys. The ones we have now just dont resemble the spirit and tradition of the rockets. Like someone else said these are simple and classy and the cut of the jersey is how all NBA jerseys should be, just like they used to be. The championship jerseys are still my favorite but these would be just as good...
The whole McDonald's resemblance that people are complaining about with the recently unveiled alternates doesn't bother me at all. It's not an issue if it is done correctly, like on these. Gold really only looks good in thin strips.
I like the throwbacks, and the new alternates...both are better than the current red and white ones. DD
let the throwbacks henceforth be known as: "what the rockets should've done with the opportunity to create an alternate"
