Bust or no bust, he's a gold mine for the Nets. They have signed 4 sponsor deals with Chinese companies and are looking for more and when they make their move to Brooklyn the Nets ticket sales should benefit from the huge Chinese population in NYC and Brooklyn in particular.
If Yue and his subpar basketball abilities actually stick beyond training camp, maybe it's just another part of their master plan to attract LeBron to NY. Bringing in Yue can't hurt their connection to the Chinese population and may even open up more opportunities for LeBron if and when he were to sign with the Knicks. They are probably looking at every possible angle to improve the package they can offer up, no matter how ridiculous it may seem. That LeBron TV station rumor, if true, could be another example of these efforts.
The same can be said for the Nets, Yi maybe a factor in bringing Lebron to the Nets. They also have his friend Jay-Z as an owner. The Knicks want Lebron bad so maybe the signing of Yue has something to do with getting him to NY, they won't be able to entice him to NY because the Knicks can give him his championship and they can't offer him more money than the Cavs can. So they have to put together a creative package or he goes to NY to play on a bigger stage than Cleveland.
Yi gets play time, and can score some points despite never having any plays ran for him. Yi needs to play for Don Nelson
I'm intrigued to see what Yue can do with D'Antoni. D'Antoni can take even the most average of a player and make him somewhat decent.
He is a better than average shooter. He seems to zone out for long periods during games. Kind of like Stromile Swift.
LOL, Yi will be out of the league way before that happens (which it likely won't happen anyway). And brooklyn doesn't have the largest Chinese population for NYC, that's Flushing (which is in Queens). So maybe if the Mets got a Chinese outfielder...
If he is only 20/21 like he claims, sure. JO didn't come into being a force after his 3rd year. But if he is already 25, then ...
That's obviously not going to happen, what kind of logic is that. Half of this board channels all of its hatred for the Chinese government onto Yi so I'm not surprised at these kinds of post anyway
What kind of logic is it that Yi will be out of the league within the 3 years before the Barclays Center opens (which now it actually might due to change in ownership)? Probably pretty sound logic given his career trajectory.
I think Yi's got enough to stay in the league for another 3 years. He has shown enough flashes to land on a team. Being Chinese totally helps his chances of a roster spot too. This is his third strike year though as far as being an impact player though. By impact, I mean a guy in a regular rotation.
They have both shown that they are bad players. If Yi's ridiculous muscle gain over the summer can somehow eliminate his obvious confidence problems, he could still be a solid starter. I've seen nothing from Yue that would lead me to believe he'll become a good player. However, D'antoni transformed Diaw (6'8 playmaker)... perhaps the same thing can happen for Yue (6'9 playmaker)
Get serious. That pic somebody posted here a month or two ago was clearly photoshopped or enhanced. It takes 1 minute of googling to realize that Yi looks identical to last season. August 14th, 2009: August 15th, 2009:
