As a Rockets fan, you've to to be thrilled that this guy's the head coach. The player personnel moves get all the attention, but hiring Rick Adelman was a very wise move.

I was going to give this thread 5 stars but then some people derailed it. I partially agree with Tinman. If I recall correctly Elston Turner was an Assistant of some sort in the Kings run. So we have more than just Rick...

EDIT: What's up with Juanes references...

It's thyme to support sage, parsley, and rosemary.

This thread is not complete without someone posting that Rick Adelman death stare.

i respect theblacknight, but derailing threads is not cool (in general). we've all been guilty of that though.

however, i hope tinman brings up this thread again during the season. i GUARANTEE someone will criticize the hell out of rick and want to fire him once we hit a losing streak. it will happen.

Rick would complete his mastery of the team if he wore his monocle

There's that one song that I can't get out of my head. Plus I notice that story about his concert.

I critique him when necessary...but Tinman loves Max, even though he left our team hanging in 95...that is what I call a man crush or kissing a**.

I've always critiqued Tmac's leadership, his shooting %'s, the stuff he says, the way he handled last year. When he warrants criticism, I criticize him, just like any other Rocket.

I simply think he gets way too much blame for his teammates not showing up...he and Yao always produced in the playoffs. The same can't be said for any other teammate except Scola.

Umm I'm trying to find out when the fans stopped supporting Rick? I mean yeah, I'm sure some people question his coaching strategies but its not like he was getting T-Macked by fans.

hmm, what does Vernon Maxwell have to do with a Rick Adelman thread?

I doubt you know anything about Maxwell or the 90s Rockets. And don't give me this your dad let your watch the tapes bs. cause it is bs. why don't watch Leave it Beaver and tell us how it was growing up in the 50s too.

Stick with what you know now, which is defending Tracy McGrady at any point of his career and blasting pointless stats while ignoring obvious problems.

Rick Adelman is partially to blame for the team's failures too, but he inherited a team that was considered playoff failure for not winning a series.

I believe Rick Adelman has nothing to prove to his critics, especially those who weren't alive when he coached the Blazers.

But back to the thread, Rick is a great coach who plays the style and brings in the guys that you just love to love.

You love seeing the guys playing team ball, working every second of the game, never quiting, fighting every posession. That is the epitome of Rick Adelman Basketball.

that's the epitome of every good coach's basketball. JVG emphasized the same thing. we won 50 games with very little talent after our big 2 under him.

I love JVG dont get me wrong, but he definitely played the style of ball where you either force it into yao, or give it to tmac and let him try something. Not team oriented ball.

Yao/Tmac etc was JVG's team. He got all the players he believed fit his coaching style.

Yao/Tmac is the hand that Rick was dealt. I know Morey makes the moves, but I'm sure he consoles with Rick to make sure the players fit his coaching style.

i wonder if Rick had a chance to change the roster entirely, who would have on the team?

I'm 21...I was alive when RA was coaching the Blazers.

Whats the difference if I watch the games on tape, NBA TV or ESPN classic? It isn't bs, cuz I can tell you all about the games I've watched...try me. Utah Game 5, Pheonix Game 5 & 7, Spurs Games 2, 5 & 6, entire magic series...did notice Vernon Maxwell wasn't there though.

Games 6 & 7 vs. New York as well. Game 7 vs. Seattle, Game 2 vs. Utah in 94.

Whats the difference if I watched it then or now?? Its the same games...the players aren't any different. I don't care for all the "emotions of a sports team winning" bs....get some help with that...you live vicariously through the Rockets or something.

I know my history, and I can tell you plenty about the 50's if you would like me to...I am educated. I can't say I experienced it, but through reading many books and watching the history channel, it still gives me a very good understanding of the lifestyle back then.

I played basketball through high school at North Shore, so don't act like I don't know my basketball...being a less athletic Indian person at school full of pure athletes, the only way i made the team was because of my bball IQ.

I know plenty about basketball and the game, and NBA history. I just use stats to show people that I don't use my emotions to post about the NBA. Facts never lie, facts are unbiased, and its great to use in an argument...

but if you wanna use your "it made my life complete" bs or "vernon maxwell is the yin to my yang" bs as well, then go for it...I use real research and stats.

JVG had his style and needed players that fit his style or his style wouldn't work. While RA has a player profile he prefers he can adjust his style to the talent he is given. I don't think JVG had this ability which is huge. The other reason RA is a far more talented coach is his ability to make a player better over time or player development. JVG could never be a franchise coach because even if he started with a championship team he would wear them down over time and would have no and coming talent to replace them.

Look at my post at the end of page 2.

It looks like you frequently try to pass your opinions off as facts.
