Exactly, so why blame your coach, when you yourself tipped the ball away from your own teamate? Losers look for excuses..... I believe if Tmac dominates the ball the team will not accomplish a championship, and probably would lose in the first round again and again...him dominating the ball is too predictable... And him whining about Adelman's offense 2 straight years does not bode well for this one....especially when he is playing for a new contract...and he probably will not get the ball as often as he likes. Brace yourselves for the TMac "Not getting my touches" freight train coming at ya in 2009-10. DD
If Deke was in there (one of the best rebounders in NBA history), Tmac and Landry wouldn't be battling Boozer and Okur for a rebound http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200804260UTA.html Luis Scola fouled out in this game...why would you not put in Dikembe Mutombo to box out Boozer or Okur. Landry can't box them out and Tmac at 210 lbs can out jump them, but rebounding is about boxing out. When is your shooting guard supposed to be battling a 6'9 280 lbs power forward or a 6'11 240 lbs. center for a rebound on a free throw?? Would it not make sense to put Deke in there?? That is a mental lapse by Rick Adelman. It makes ZERO sense not to put Deke in for one rebound Especially considering Boozer and Okur combined for 32 rebounds that game...you expect your 6'8 210 lbs shooting guard to box one of them out with a rookie 6'9 forward?? How you find a way to pin this on Tmac is beyond me...It was clearly Adelman's fault...Tmac just voiced his frustration, can't blame him for that, cuz I'd be pissed too if my coach didn't make a commen sense decision like that...
Blaming coach Adelman is the last thing any clutchfan would say about the rockets. Any coach would not do a better job than Adelman for the rockets in the last 2 years.
Rick Adelman > any clutchfan PERIOD. He's a millionaire cause he knows how to coach a basketball team. they don't pay him to google up stats and make up stupid what if scenarios. Rick Adelman is a coach in the NBA, he CONTROLS THE REAL SCENARIOs. Stupid kids on clutchfans can only dream of that.
i concur. but i've seen threads here throughout the past 2 seasons of fans wanting to fire rick b/c he doesn't "know" how to use yao/low post presence or not knowing how to adjust during games. how those people can even type those things is beyond me.
I didn't say he wasn't a good coach...I said it was a mental lapse...which he's done in Portland and Sacremento as well in close playoff games. He's done a great job throughout all the injuries and what not...but having Tmac and Landry tryng to box out Boozer and Okur (who combined for 32 rebounds that game) instead of putting Deke in was a mistake by the coach. Tmac doesn't sub players in and out of the game, Rick Adelman does. Tmac actually said a smart thing for once, yet he gets burned once again. He gets blamed for not getting a rebound over a power forward and a center, and naturally he says, "why wasn't our 7'2 center Deke in the game, since he's a great rebounder?" It was a rebound we definetily needed to give our self a chance to win. It was 2 shots, and Rick Adelman had time to see that Tmac was matched up against big men, and didn't sub in Mutombo... RA hasn't made many mistakes as a ROckets coach, but that was one of the few and it was costly. I like RA as a coach a lot...but he did mess up on that one possession. Doesn't mean, I don't respect him for the 2 years of great work he's done besides that.
I never said I was better than Rick Adelman...but its common sense to put in one of the greatest rebounders of all time, when your team desperately needs a rebound for a chance to win. We had timeouts, so it wasn't because they would foul him. I know no coach in the NBA would think Tmac and Landry could get a rebound over Boozer and Okur. He's a great coach, but he made a costly mistake...its a fact. It happens, but that wasn't tmac's decision not to put Deke in there...it was RIck's. Its common sense...
every coach/athlete makes mistakes. and i don't care what ANYONE says: one POSSESSION does NOT make a game. the reasons we lost to the jazz were injuries to yao, rafer, tracy, and shane. those were too much to overcome.
I agree, BUT, considering all that, we were in a position to tie or win the game in a game 4 on the road, that would've tied the series going back home for game 5 and possibly a game 7 at home if needed. In those situations, you can't make simple mistakes like that...a coach is there to manage the game. He should've realized that those guys wouldn't be able to get a rebound over Boozer and Okur...and we had a timeout if they tried to foul Deke, which is the only reason I can think of to not put him in there. BUt we had a time out. We may not have won the game or even tied it, but we'll never know...RIck overrachieved with that team. He did a fine job, but that doesn't change the fact that one of his few mistakes was very costly in a crucial part of the game.
thanks t_mac1, I was beginning to think that a serious amount of posters here really never watched the Rockets playoffs series.
I think he's simply saying that TMac isn't to blame. It was a collective mistake. And luck/physics just happened to be on the j*zz's side as they collected those last few rebounds.
Game 4, with a few seconds left...that part I do blame. but Bobby Jackson's 1/10 night didn't help, neither did Rafer's 6/18, or Tmac's 9/25 and Scola fouling out... but we still almost found a way to win, but RIck didn't put in Deke...everything else he did was fine, but in a crucial moment, a coach has to know the situation and put in his best available rebounder and that was Deke, since Yao was injured and Scola was fouled out. Was Tmac supposed to put Deke in?? Its not like we didnt' have a time out to call on the rebound...stop bowing down to RA so much. Coaches can make crucial mistakes too...they aren't immune from faults. JVG not fouling at the end of Game 7 was a mental mistake on his part taht let 12 important second go off the clock...even though he was right there in the back court to tell the players to foul. It happens...
That game when okur pusjed landry under the basket was a mistake not to have deke in but i have a good idea why. Adelman was banking on getting the rebound, not calling a timeout and trying to win the game or make a play with stop in action. Some would say get the rebound first before making the grand plans, but it works both ways. If deke is in and gets the rebound, now the rockets have to call a to, set up after the to and win the game vs getting the reb and not allowing the defense to set and trying to win.I know what he was thinking, unfortuantely the gm didn't really arm him with a little bit of size and veteran experience to overcome that.
i think after that game, the entire board was in uproar against rick also in regards to that. "where was deke?" and the media asked him questions about that too. but like leeb said, rick might have had his reasoning. we weren't going to win that series anyways b/c of all those injuries. had rafer play the first 2 games though, i bet 100% we would have won.
sometimes you just have to give credit to Utah, they play tough and they never take a possession off.
ya, I know what your saying, and its a good though...but its like a reciever looking to make a big play after the catch...he better make the catch first before you think touchdown. It was a good thought, and if Scola was in the game, then sure, go for it...I have confidence in his rebounding ablity, but with him fouled out, you're asking a lot from Tmac and Landry to rebound over Boozer and Okur. He didn't put them in a good position to win, when we overcame a lot that game to be that close.
Basher-hunters, you don't belong on this thread. Honestly, the guy who started this thread isn't trying to bash on TMac for nothing. He has a point and people should listen. If I might add, let's just think about the negative things that he has done for our team this past season... The Rockets have allowed T-Mac to play every-other game, in an unprecedented circumstance of his uncomfortable leg. This really is unprecedented... No manager in this league would allow a player to run all over the team like that. The fact that we gave him this chance, which constantly risked ruining chemistry and build of the team, and the fact that he totally couldn't keep through with the team's expectations makes him something justifiably prone to criticism. His announcement of sitting out for the season was abrupt for even the coach of the team. This alone is enough for a sh***y trade to get him off the roster. It's time for the Rockets to get off of T-Mac's selfish games and concentrate on what they have a future with. I loved T-Mac's talent, capability, and potential. But it's finished now. He really is an outlier to the team when it comes to keeping respect and staying true to his words.
