Yeah, 'so critical' sounds a bit harsh especially for what we are discussing -- I didn't intend for it read like that.
I don't think the point of him shooting baskets is to get better shooting falling down or to improve is overall shot. Maybe he just wants to have a ball in his hand and perhaps improve arm strength. Whatever his purpose is, he is showing great work ethic.
I think Yao shooting is much better if he's shorter or it's just that the arches of his shots making it look good.
Professionals aren't always right. While the average joe was questioning the money that Lehman made, they imploded professionally. Didn't professionals say that Yao could put weight on his foot after his injury, only to it was a mistake and he needed crutches, a week later?
You hit the nail on the head. Ever been away from work for an extended time due to injury? It drives you mad if you don't have something to do and your morale starts to plummet. This workout is as much for his mind as it is for his upper body, form and eye-hand coordination. This also helps when he's shooting off-balance, which happened quite often when they put 2 or 3 bodies on him.
You don't shoot shots from the same angle or the same distance everytime, either. Shooting drills are shooting drills, IMO. They help you get better at finding the basket.
Well does it hurt .. Everybody seem to disagree with although the idea of elavting his positions seems good ..
Correct. He was making shots right away which means he adjusted quickly to it so it doesn't really matter. Even if he was making the shots from a higher point of reference it will still be very different because he's still not standing up which makes a big differenece interms of his psutre and the lift not coming from his legs/knees.
We are extremely lucky to have such a hard working, professional center. I sincerely hope he is a Houston Rocket for life.
As pointed out by another poster -- muscle memory. When was the last time we saw Yao shoot a traditional "jump shot"? Could just be me, but I don't recall seeing him leave the floor on a jump shot... even from the 3-point range. His jump shots are mostly in his arms. He barely leaves the floor to dunk the ball.
I can't wait til the cast comes off. I believe he will be back sooner than later. It sure seems like he's aiming for it.
I think he may try but it would probably be better for the team to hold him out.... However if it gets to be a Jordan like issue where MJ was playing anyway after his foot healed, then they might have to bow to Yao's wishes and let him play. DD
Yea with Yaos height and weight he should hold out bit longer for the teams sake... until midseason you think
