Ive rarely posted on this board but have been reading anti-cato posts for 6 months or so. And decided to stand up for this guy. This guy has game. Yes he has underachieved, but the talent is there. If you watched the 2nd half of the seasons, he showed flashes that he can be a top 8 or so Center. I really think he AVGS the most dunks in the league behind Shaq. Hes actually fun to watch. Is ming better I hope so, but I would like to keep Cato as a backup, cause I cant honestly think of a better backup center than Cato. Once he gets his new role. Cato is overpaid. But he has some talent.

Yeah, but he may be playing behind Ming, and hell maybe even Collier. IMO, Cato is trade bait, and if he has the talent you say he does, there will be some teams coming after him soon. I believe you though. He could be good in the Eastern Conference, but probably won't amount to anything in the West.

There was a dunk vs. Dallas, I think...Stevie threw it up and Cato slammed in a reverse flush. At that moment I loved Cato. Now I say "ehh."

But we do need him. I don't really want Collier or Willis being Yao's backup.

Agreed. Willis is about ready to retire, and well, Collier just isn't gonna cut it. Cato will be a good backup to Ming... but I still think maybe they can trade for something better... just my 2 cents.

Cato is sketchy as a starter. But his skills, I think, are probably better than the average back-up center. Of course, his focus again will be essential to being successful at any role he takes on. But I like him as a solid back up center. Just a question (as usual) of his attitude.

Cato improved last year but he can't make it as a starter. I hate the way he carries himself on the court, he acts like a whipped puppy! Trade him for Jahide White from the wizards.

Maybe if he actully tried on the court, but at nearly every game I was at, he acts like a lazy piece of $hit and doesnt do hardly anything. The guy lacks basic fundamentals.

Damn, sometimes people need to put things into perspective. First of all, it's one thing to complain about what Cato does on the court, but to call the man a piece **** is just wrong. What's more important, that he's a good basketball player, or a good person? People complain about what players do off the court all the time. Here we have a dude who writes children's books like H.O.O.P. (Help Out Other People). Second, we gott remember that he isn't a really a basketball player. This guy grew up playing baseball. What's his story, something like he was a dishwasher who had a huge growth spurt? Naturally he started playing b-ball, his height is an asset in College. The person to blame for the contract is CD. What was Cato supposed to do? CD: "Here's a 42 mill contract to thank you for that one good game." Cato: "No CD, I can't. I'm not really a good basketball player, I don't deserve this huge contract, give me a smaller one." PFFFFFFF!!! Yeah right! So let's keep the complaints on the court where they belong. At least he's not pertending to be a cop and pulling people over or fighting on golf courses like Polynice.

Cato is very talented, but appears to do only what is necessary. Last season when it looked like he was trade bait, he "tore it up," but when the trade deadline passed, he shifted into neutral. I predict that he will elevate his game in a futile attempt to keep Ming on the bench. I think he would be an excellent back up.

I'd trade Cato for a Ervin Johnson in a split second. Cato is a waste of space.

Stevie, KT and Cato are my favorite Rockets players.

CATO rocks and I've ALWAYS supported him.

All you Cato haters and so called "Rockets Fans" should respect him and cheer him on too.

    Wheres the love man?!

I will admit Cato improved some last season. But he is not worth that damn contract we gave him. He gave us 10 good games last season, 10. If he acted like he tried just the least bit, I would like him a whole lot better. He acts like crying brat when he is on the court, draggin himself up and down the court like that. The Kandi man did him bad the last game we played the Clippers and we had to put in Collier, come on now. When you have to sub in Collier because your starting center is getting done up, you really have to think "this guy is pathetic." I really hope the Rockets can stop thinking about who is starting over who and start thinking about how to win games (as a team)

Show us some numbers and we will show you some respect

As a knick fan visting you rockets boards I agree that Cato can be a top center in the League, when he wants to.So much I propose this trade to you Rocket fans......
Houston trades: PF Kenny Thomas (14.1 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.9 apg in 34.5 minutes)
    C Kelvin Cato (6.6 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 0.4 apg in 25.5 minutes)
PG Moochie Norris (8.1 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 4.9 apg in 27.4 minutes)
Houston receives: PG Charlie Ward (5.2 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 3.2 apg in 16.8 minutes)
PF Kurt Thomas (13.9 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 1.1 apg in 33.8 minutes)
Change in team outlook: -9.7 ppg, -6.1 rpg, and -2.9 apg.

New York trades: PG Charlie Ward (5.2 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 3.2 apg in 16.8 minutes)
PF Kurt Thomas (13.9 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 1.1 apg in 33.8 minutes)
New York receives: PF Kenny Thomas (14.1 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 1.9 apg in 72 games)
    C Kelvin Cato (6.6 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 0.4 apg in 75 games)
PG Moochie Norris (8.1 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 4.9 apg in 82 games)
Change in team outlook: +9.7 ppg, +6.1 rpg, and +2.9 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

I think Kurt Thomas comming home will not only help you team, but would be the perfect enforcer for Mr. Ming. We all know that in his first every team in the west will try to intimdate him with tough aggressive inside play.Just a thought any responses?

I am not pissed at Cato for the contract, I am pissed at the Rockets for offering him the contract. However, when making that kind of money, it should be expected that you are giving 100% every night, and that is clearly not the case.

As for him writing childrens books, that is great, and I appreciate that he is doing that for the community. But when I talk about a player on here, I am not talking about their personal life, I am talking about their basketball life. I could really careless what he or most other Rockets do off the court. But as for character, are you aware the guy was suspected of murder?

Just think if Cato was to evaluate our jobs and the things we do, i wonder how many of us would be worth keeping. Cato is a very good backup and we would be foolish to let him go.

He's definately better than Collier. What has Collier done besides fould shaq? Also, Collier is good for only showing up at Rocket public events.

Re: the proposed trade w/ NY:

If you think Cato catches hell in Houston, imagine him in New York:eek:

Don't know about Ward's contract, and we lose KT as the extra player in the otherwise PG-PG, C-C trade. I'd think we'd want some picks, too. I don't know enough about Kurt Thomas to want him, though.

Hey Knicks fan, would you seriously do that trade?

I'd do it in a heart beat.

    Kurt Thomas (GREAT season finale)
Charlie Ward (last 1 or 2 years on contract)

    for

    Mooch
    Kenny Thomas
    Cato

I'd really like to do this trade. It also gives us a lot of different looks at C. Ming/Kurt Thomas/Willis is very diverse. Also, we get soemeone on a SHORT contract to play the remaining 8 minutes that Francis doesn't play.

    Our team:

    Ming/Kurt Thomas/Willis
    Griffin/MoT/T-Mo
    Rice/Nachbar/T-Mo
    Mobley/Torres?
    Francis/Ward

It;s not a good idea putting Cato on the bench. If you watch him play, you know that 20 minutes after starting are MUCH MUCH MUCH more productive than 30 minutes after not starting for him.

    New York:

    Cato/Travis Knight?
    McDyess/Spoon
    Sprewell/Shandon/Spoon
    Houston/Shandon
    Mooch/Eisley/Williams (whoever wins the spot)

    Good trade IMO.
