You should change the name of this thread right now. The only debate is "Who is the second greatest Rocket ever?" The greatest is not even a question any sane being would ask. (no offense intended)
The title says Greatest Rockets Ever not Greatest Rocket Ever but besides that agree Dream is a once in a lifetime player but Mo Malone could have been what Jabbar to O'neal was for the Lakers during there transition years back to dominance.
I don't care about the rest really, but Rudy has to be #2 when you consider him a Rocket as a coach and scout as well. He helped bring a couple of rings here. When I think "Greatest Rockets", I always end up putting non-players like Gene Peterson, Jim Foley, CD, etc. on the list before many of the players. Robert Reid may be too low on that list considering his contribution to a championship run when he frustrated Magic Johnson with his height and also to just stats in Rockets history.
Terrific post. Makes sense when you put it that way. Bobby Joe is pretty consistently underrated (as is Jim Peterson during the same run). I enjoyed the OP's list and while mine might be a bit different, his is excellent.
Yeah, this is a great point when you consider him as a coach and a player -which is the way he should be looked at in Rockets history.
The only one that is comparable to Dream is Moses, but he was only here for 6 years, vs. Dream's 17 years. All the other greats we've had came after their prime (Drexler, Barkley, Elvin Hayes) Or had injuries (Sampson, Yao, Tmac)...never really had a chance to become great as a Rocket because of the injuries. Murphy is a hall of famer, but he wasn't great in the way Dream or Moses was. Still a very good player though, especially for his size.
didn't mean to put Elvin Hayes on the after their prime list (saw that he played here at 37 years old, but did not realize that he was a SAN DIEGO ROCKET for a few years and had one season in Houston after that. He's in Moses's class....great while he was here, but just wasn't here long enough.
