I am glag to see Yao keeping working out.Yes,any workouts will help. I am just think about that Yao will be 30 age when he returns. Can he bring us a champion at 30?He is getting older.Whatever,I am on your side,Yao.
That's good he's still working out. I think he's coming back around late march early april just in time for that playoff run. Just imagine a healthy fresh Yao for a playoff run that would be perfect for us. Keep praying b/c sometimes prayers are answered.
When I played in High School, we would practice our form by laying on our back and shooting the ball into the air. I think he's just doing this to keep his shooting touch.
You are probably right, but I am not sure if it is a good idea. Sure, he will keep his touch but it may be a little bit weird for him to shoot when he will be able to run.
2010 is not even his contract year. Regardless it is a contract year or not, Yao Ming had been doing these type of rehab almost every time he was sidelined with his injury/surgery. He worked on his upper limbs; he practiced to keep his shooting feel and touch on a chair, long before he can walk normally.
Yao should spend time strengthening his hands if thats possible, seems like he gets stripped so easily.
When he got injured in 2005/2006, I remember that the Rockets did some exercises with tennis balls to improve Yao's reflexes, hands. And when he returned, he did appear to be much more secure with the basketball. His rebounds went way up, his turnovers went way down. I don't know what he was doing during that time off, but it couldn't hurt for him to continue with it.
since he cant really do much he should do some staionary ballhandling drills that way he wont lose the ball often and the chair shooting would definatly help with the rust because when you dont practice your shoot consistently everyday then you will start missing lots until you get the hang of your target
Shooting touch, guys. Good shooters can adjust to distance and height with a few practices, as long as they maintain their touch. I think he should be shooting some hook shots, though.
Great to see Yao's work ethic and love for his team. I would hope they would move the height of the basket around a bit -but shooting from a lower height will strengthen the muscles he uses for shooting and help keep his touch. Really if nothing else it's just good to see him out there to serve as an example to the rest of the team. Never give up.
I remember that story. They would throw tennis balls at him. It would be way more productive to improve his grip and reflexes, than shooting basketballs in a chair. At least, he won't get stripped as much on rebounds.
Positive thing to see him workin out, you can't ask anything more from him in that condition. And he looks fatter than ever, so more muscle to work with when he gets up on his legs.
Not sure why you are being so critical of Yao shooting from a chair -- i'm sure he is working on other exercises as well.
