I agree. The political stakes are pretty high. However anxiety over America's future is bubbling up in many unpleasant ways. I think the emotional component is tapping into racial frustration and fears. There's conditioning in the last 30 years that makes discussing race a deeply taboo issue. Whether it's conscious or not, people are lashing out with whatever means necessary to prove a point.
This whole stupid 9/12 movement/tea party BS is being poster boy'd/orchestrated by Glenn Beck, who rants about how Obama has a "deep-seeded hatred for the white race" and wants to attack "white culture" Basically, it's lifted from the language and hate speech of the Aryan Nation, American Nazi party, KKK, and dozens of other white supremacists groups Can somebody please tell me why the "race card" must be kept in the deck here?
Turn on the news and listen to Republicans mischaracterize anyone who has a legitimate question about race motivating any of the anti-Obama propaganda. Oh wait, I bet you're going to do it later on in your post. Are you kidding me? Clinton was labeled as the "the first black President" in 1998 because he was from a single-parent household, was poor and enjoyed playing the saxophone. You really think people thought of him as literally black? Back to your point, are you really trying to compare a few people calling Clinton racist because of one statement (that I don't consider racist) to people holding angry rallies, saying he is really from Kenya and threatening to bring guns to D.C.? Wow. Wilson isn't just some white dude who said "you lie." He has a history of associating himself with racist organizations and people. He also has a history of making racist statements or do you not think telling Strom Thurmond's daughter that she was a liar and then later stating that even though she was proven to be his daughter she tarnished his image by going public with it? Do you not even see the problem when this guy's hero is Strom Thurmond? I knew you wouldn't let me down!! Please find a credible person who EVER said that to dislike Obama makes you a racist. Thanks for that nice rant. Of course, I don't remember GWB being subjected to these types of attacks immediately after being elected. Actually, if anything rational thought would tell you he would be the guy to catch hell from citizens considering his rise to the Presidency was a bit suspect. As controversial as Clinton was he didn't have this level of petty opposition right out of the gate either. There must be another reason then....hmmmmm.
I dont think i understand your point. being a thug is a character of a person. it has nothing to do with ethnicity. i think it's about superiority. Members of the KKK think they're superior to blacks, asians, and even other whites (jews) Doesnt supremacist come from superior? White supremacists are racist. If someone is racist, doesnt that person also think their race is superior to the one that they hate? i figure it goes hand in hand. You can look down upon people who have low class like Malone or Bowen, but that doesnt make you a racist. you obviously dislike them for other reasons.
Its kept here b/c just as every card in the deck has relevance so does it. And due to some of the race baiters that are active here, so you have the race card being played. I think there is a bias for who can play the race card on here.
When did I say this? 8 years, turned a budget surplus into a deficit, started a war for reasons that did not exist, was President during the housing collapse. I'll stop there but we both know there is more. How do you compare 8 years of that to 7 months of Obama? Yeah, I guess you're right. In 8 years Bush probably did receive more opposition than Obama has in less than one year. You don't me but I don't like pulling the race card, sex card or whatever "card" but the facts are the facts and they point to racism being a factor this time.
notice I did say last decade, I think his scandal falls close enough into that range maybe I phrased that poorly, I was referring to this comment:
My original post: and then my point is proven: same poster, different post: again: There's my point. I mention race as "large component" (I guess that is subjective but it certainly doesn't mean "the only reason") and before I know it I'm being accused of calling everyone and anyone a racist who does not like President Obama. That's the SAME THING happening all over right this minute. You can't even mention race as a factor without people trying to characterize you as a race baiter.
that becasue the "Race Card is being overplayed" to quote the title of the thread. If there is a real case of racism (this certainly is not one imo), it goes unnoticed because people are too quick to mention race. But like I said, i'm sure there are some people who don't like him because he is black, but there are also plenty of people that support him because he is black.
Yes, the race card is overplayed - by the biggest voices on the right. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/09/16/rush-limbaugh-obamas-amer_n_288371.html A white kid gets beat up on a bus by a bunch of black kids, and Rush says it's a result of "Obama's America": You put your kids on a school bus you expect safety but in Obama's America the white kids now get beat up with the black kids cheering 'yeah, right on, right on, right on.' Of course everybody said the white kid deserved it he was born a racist, he's white.
I don't disagree with you there. Maybe we got off on the wrong foot. I apologize for my tone earlier. I think supporting the guy because he is black is not terribly harmful. Opposition simply because he is black is somewhat benign as well provided it ends at peacefully opposing. Both ideas are equally ignorant but not dangerous. Things like bringing guns to rallies, having cable TV show hosts claim Obama hates white people and is out to destroy white culture or trying to misrepresent him as someone who wants to destroy the country are. These are things/ideas we are seeing on a mass scale. I think it's dangerous and I think that part of that is motivated by racism toward Obama. That's the difference, it's the people who hate/fear that are the loudest, angriest and most dangerous.
