Jeff, I read your article this morning. I am glad you wrote it. I think you said a lot about what a lot of us were thinking. Everyone that is skeptical about Ming are those that really have not seem him play, read up on him, seen video footage etc. Heck the Rockets PLAYERS fell into this category until CD showed them the video. Then they became believers. As you said, the people that evaluate for a living are sold on him. And it is their opinions that really matter. It is their ass on the line. Chris
Nicely written Jeff. How do you get to write articles around this place? I would love the chance to use my Sports Journalism degree, and stretch my wings in articles. DaDakota
Excuse my Bill Walton like analogy, but if there were a Hall of Fame for BBS posters I'd think you'd be a first-ballot inductee. This story said everything I'd been thinking through this whole Yao situation. Scouts and Players that have played against him know a whole lot more that reporters. Really, I like to hear from players who've played against him. So far he's got rave reviews from Kevin Garnett , Alonzo Mourning, Melvin Ely, and David Benoit made him seem like a sure fire all-star. Then again it is David Benoit.
JEFF . . . . Nice article but .. . . YOU QUOTED TONY BARONE AS A BASKETBALL EXPERT AS A FORMER AGGIE . . .I KNOW THAT TO NOT BE TRUE!!!! Rocket River aaahhh the Tony Barone years at A&M *shiver* "STARTING POINT GUARD . . . .TONY BARONE JR!" "WHAT?!?!?!?" - Every Aggie
Great article, summed up a lot of thoughts I also had in my mind. I like how you backed up your arguments with actual quotes from scouts and players. -G'day-
Very interesting article; solidified (no pun intended) my thoughts on Ming. Editorial opinions aside, the data suggests that he will be a very special player, but there are so many variables that only time will reveal the wisdom of this pick. In two years or less we will be thrilled or disappointed. Right now, I'm thrilled.
I'd love to read DaDa's articles. He's basically the Barkley of the BBS (minus the sense of humor. J/K! ) Great article, and nice job of cutting through the garbage. I think the broadcasters and sports writers are ripping Ming because he's a foreign player, and thus they don't know anything about him. So they here "He's 7-5 with a nice shot" and all of a sudden he's Shawn Bradley, or he's Bill Laimbeer. Of course I find it ironic that Rick Majerus calls him Laimbeer and then rips his rebounding. Laimbeer had over 10,000 rebounds in his career. I'm psyched about the season. As long as Ming gets to the boards and blocks shots his first season I'm happy!
