Who will be the next to win a championship? I've got my money on the Texans....soon as they get a new coach.
honestly, i have absolutely no idea. i would have thought texans...partially because i think the rags to riches stories are more likely in the NFL than the other 2 leagues.... but i don't know. sometimes a team being very good keeps them from being great. sometimes the team that's seemingly on the bottom is actually closer.
Texans are probably more likely if we ran some sort of statistical evaluation of the question. Rockets I think are "closer" but health may prevent them from ever being close enough. The Astros aren't even in the conversation in my opinion.
I think the NBA is the most difficult - you tend to have a lot more dynasties and fewer different winners. I think the Rockets have a better chance of winning 2 titles than do the Texans or Astros, but less of a chance to win 1. MLB has the most luck involved meaning you have a better shot without being the absolute best, but the Astros are in the worst shape of the three franchises.
Astros Miracles do happen. Honestly I like the way they are headed. In 4 or 5 years they will have Bourn/Pence/Castro in their prime(obviously hopeful in Castro's case). And we will see how the young pitchers at Lexington are able to become quality Big League arms. With any luck Norris will become either a quality starter, or a dominant arm out of the pen. Honestly I don't think the Rockets will win one with Yao Ming being the focal point. The Texans take a step back every time they take one forward.
by far the rockets. i think they would of had it last year if it wasnt for the injuries. texans could b soon. the astros arent even in the conversation look at there lineup compared 2 the phillies or yankees
Honestly, I don’t see any of our teams breaking through and winning a championship any time soon. Rockets will have to rebuild before making a serious run. Last year was our make or break year – and we broke…again…. Texans I just don’t think have the mentality to make a serious run any time soon. With a few exceptions, we are just too mentally and physically soft. It starts at the top and goes all the way to the practice squad. Besides that, I seriously think this team is cursed. (this is just my opinion) Astros….well, as we all know, they are just a complete mess. And will be for the foreseeable future.
UMM. they way things look tight now, we are a year or 2 away from even considering eithor in contention. If you put a gun to my head I would say Texans. Currently, Astros are in the dumpster with talent and the Rcokets stars will always be hurt going into the playoff. The texans got talent, just no leadership, on or off the field.
I can't pick the Astros..or any of them But agree entirely with what you wrote above, otherwise, and it's why I really don't know. I certainly think the Texans and Rockets are in better shape than the Astros...but I don't think any of the 3 appears to be on the road to the championship anytime soon.....so it's possible the team that's closer to hitting rock-bottom is actually the next Houston champion.
Dynamo... but probably Rockets as the West should get weaker in the next few years as Kobe slows down and the Spurs do the same. Dalllas isn't young anymore and Denver is to dumb to ever be an ELITE team. Utah will be good if they make the right move in the Boozer drama. Portland is scarey and potentially OK City in 2 years could be Portland of last year. Texans have work to do apparently and Astros are a mess along with Baseball being the hardest to win a title in.
hmm....Texans. If they can finally right this ship... Anything seems to happen year to year in the NFL. Rockets won't get one till way after the Yao Ming era. Our stars are just too fragile.
Why do you say baseball is the hardest to win a title in when there has been more "parity" in terms of who wins the WS than the other sports?
can't imagine why you'd think that. get in the playoffs and get hot. more than any other sport, that's the formula. agreed that it's harder to get in the playoffs most years relative to the rest of the leagues. but if you can find a way in, you have a better chance of winning it all in baseball than the playoff teams in other sports, i think.
the other element, not mentioned - both the rockets and texans are in, by far, their leagues' most dominant conferences. and in the texans' case, arguably the league's toughest division. (might say the same about the rockets, but divisions are less important in the nba.) until there's a shift in power, i think they have the hardest road, making the astros the default favorite.
i disagree - the "get in/get hot" formua is universal across nearly every single sport. but baseball has a longer season, fewer playoff spots, with a shorter first round that can disrupt a match-up significantly (see the '98 padres and kevin brown).... i think football, by far, is the easiest playoff to crack. not terribly difficult to get in; the schedule, once in, isn't brutal and doesn't adversely impact strategy; and games, and thus fates, can turn easily so an upstart can shock a superior team without having to sustain it for 3 more wins.
The baseball playoffs consistently provide upsets and have provided more champions than the other sports. You may think that the NFL is easier once you get in, but MLB has demonstrated it.
I meantioned this on another thread, 3 reasons why its the hardest to take the title in MLB. 1 - While there is Parity in terms of who wins the title but getting into the dance is extremely difficult as only 25 percent of teams get in so while people preach Parity...we know two teams that almost always going to make it the Red Sox and Yanks(minus last year) so that leaves 6 spots out of 30 teams and only 2 spots in the AL. 2 - The length of the Season is brutual and while other sprots are more intense, baseball is so mechanical and draining over time it is extremely difficult to maintain a pace over 162 games as it will take a huge toll. There is really no long shots if you get in the playoffs because everyone has worked so hard that they deserve to get there. 3 - Salary Cap(Brooks brought this up) not having one creates more mega powers to compete against like the Yanks, Sox and Angels and yes the Rays will have a magical season or the Rockies can ride a hot wave but then a team like the Sox or Phillies take them out in the Series. Minus the Marlins its been hard for a small market team to WIN the title not just get there.
Baseball only seems hard because the Astros have never won, but it isn't that hard. Basketball is the hardest. In the past 25 years: NBA - 7 organizations(Lakers 7, Bulls 6, Spurs 4, Pistons 3, Rockets 2, Celtics 2) NFL - 13 organizations(49ers 4, Patriots 4, Cowboys 3, Broncos 2, Steelers 2, Giants 2, Redskins 2) MLB - 18 organizations(Yankees 4, Red Sox 2, Blue Jays 2, Marlins 2, Twins 2)
