The Hakeem had no help in the early 90's, we werent a contender yet. We got knocked out of the 1st round in 90 and 91, and didn't make the playoffs in 92.

David Robinson was great, and as a rookie he took the Blazers to 7 games in 1990, but somehow lost to the Warriors 3-1 in 91, and got swept by the Suns in 92.
Karl Malone and the Jazz lost 3-1 to the Suns in 1990, lost 4-1 in 90 to the Blazers in 91, and lost 4-2 to the Blazers in the WCF.

Divac wasn't starting in 90, beat the Blazers in 91, and lost Magic johnson in 92, and thus lost in the 1st round to the Blazers.

They beat the Jazz and the Spurs and that is impressive, because those were some good teams.

I still think it is impressive that Drexler being the only HOF on that team still led a team with solid, but not elite big men to the Finals.

Jordan had Pippen, Isaiah had Joe D and both teams had Rodman (possible HOF one day).

Drexler's Blazers had Porter who was a 2x all stars and very solid piont guard who could score . Kersey was also a very solid role player and scorer.
Cliff Robinson and Ainge and Ainge were great role players off the bench as well.

I didn't say they weren't a good team, because they had a lot of talent, but considering they didn't have any elite big men (they were very solid), and no other player besides Drexler who was a perrenial All-Star, it was impressive how Drexler led them to the Finals...Twice.

That is all I'm saying. Just giving him his props.

My bad, I thought you meantt he entire 3 peat Lakers. That team did win 67 games in the regular season, but Kobe was young and immature, and Rice was a liability on defense.

I didn't say the Blazers didn't have veterans...I was just stating that the Lakers had experience to match, just like the Spurs.

You are right about Boston's depth. But their defense was solid, but I think either Drexler or Kersey would've punished Allen on the low block.

The Spurs had Tim Duncan, who could control the game in the paint...he usually came up big in the playoffs until 06. He had rebounding as well, 3 point shooters, and a point guard who was extremely quick and would make Porter work on D.

Drexler would cause them problems, but we saw how the Spurs embarrassed Lebron in the Finals. I think Drexler's post up game would help, but it isn't like he can drain a bunch of jumpers on you game after game like Kobe (how Kobe beats LA), he liked to drive more often than not. He was more of a slasher and rarely settled for jumpers, and the Spurs don't give up the drive very much.

Bruce Bowen wasn't a chump on defense either, so he would make Drexler work at the very least. Thats what Jordan/Pippen did, and Drexler and he shot 36 %, 40%, 41%, 43%, and 33 % with one game at 53%.

I wasn't trying to discredit the Blazers, but at the same time, they weren't some immortal team either. Yall make them sound like the 83 76ers, 86 Celtics, 87-88 Lakers, or the 96 Bulls.

They lost in 1990 in 5 games to the Bad Boys, who a year before swept a injured Lakers team and a year later were swept by the Bulls in their 1st title run.

And then they lost to the Lakers, without Kareem and without Pat Riley coaching them, and with HCA in the WCF, even though they had the best record in the league.

Then they lost to the Bulls, and 2 of the games they lost weren't even close.

Then by 93, they lost in the 1st round, even though the oldest player in their core was Buck Williams at 32 and Drexler, Porter, and Kersey were all 29 or 30 by then.

The only major player they lost was Danny Ainge.

So I agree they were great in their day, but somehow they seem a tad bit overrated. Still very good, but they lost 3 straight years and probably should've won atleast once, but I guess they lacked that elite big man to do so...
