I was going to put this in the Inglorious Basterds thread, but figured this movie is going to generate some talk. I'd rather see Waltz in this role instead of Nicolas Cage. Christoph Waltz joins 'Green Hornet' 'Basterds' thesp to play villain in Columbia film By MARC GRASER Christoph Waltz Christoph Waltz, who is generating raves for his role as a Nazi colonel in "Inglourious Basterds," has signed on to play the villain in Columbia Pictures' action comedy "The Green Hornet." Waltz will play Chudnofsky, a Los Angeles crime boss who tries to unite the city's various gangs in order to form a supermafia. The Austrian actor replaces Nicolas Cage, who had been in talks to take the role but walked away from negotiations last week when a contract couldn't be finalized. Seth Rogen plays the titular role in "The Green Hornet," a newspaper publisher by day who becomes a masked crime fighter at night. Asian pop star Jay Chou plays his martial arts-skilled sidekick and chauffeur Kato, while Cameron Diaz plays the love interest. Waltz, who's a regular on German television, won the best actor award at the Cannes Film Festival for his role in "Basterds." His credits also include the films "Lapislazuli," "Gun-Shy," "Falling Rocks" and "Ordinary Decent Criminal." Michel Gondry is helming "Hornet" from a script by Rogen and Evan Goldberg that's based upon "The Green Hornet" radio series by George W. Trendle. Neal H. Moritz is producing. Pic, which had originally been skedded for release next summer, will now bow Dec. 17, 2010.
I really don't like Cage (besides the great job he did in Raising Arizona), so I'll be happy to not see him in it.

Really? I found it oddly encouraging, which I didn't expect at all. Granted, I don't know anything about the Green Hornet except that Bruce Lee played Kato in the original series, but still.
Michel Gondry is awesome, The Science of Sleep and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are some of my favorite movies... The Green Hornet looks like mindless action entertainment and I'm on board!!!
I had no idea the Green Hornet was an Action Comedy. was it also a comedy back in the Bruce Lee days? Or is this just a stupid add-on kinda remake thing?

First half of that trailer reminded me of Batman, but worse Second half of it was nothing like Batman...but still not that great I'll probably catch this one on DVD.
From what I remember and the few reruns I saw, it was almost a clone of the original Batman series. I'm actually excited for this. I guess I'm a sucker for the superhero-millionaire-gadgetry archetype like Batman and Ironman.
Apparently Kato is a homophobe from the looks of this new trailer.. All around this looks like solid comic book entertainment and have any of you guys been reading any of the Kevin Smith version of Green Hornet comics?? <div><object width="576" height="324"><param name="movie" value="http://d.yimg.com/nl/movies/site/player.swf"></param><param name="flashVars" value="vid=23108213&"></param><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed width="576" height="324" allowFullScreen="true" src="http://d.yimg.com/nl/movies/site/player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashvars="vid=23108213&"></embed></object></div>
It wasn't a comedy in the original series but Bruce Lee was so bad ass compared to everyone else that it made the episodes pretty comedic. Essentially Kato did all the butt kicking and constantly saved the Green Hornet's ass.
