In his prime, which was too short, you couldn't do better than Bernard King.

I think "turnaround jumper" is a bit too restrictive and slightly vague, if a player posts up, gets the ball, faces up, and shoots the jumper, is that a turnaround jumper? Not strictly, but it is almost the same. I think if we consider jump shots taken from post up position, then Bird is the clear winner; he could create his shot and make it however he wanted from the wing isolation or the low post.

you're right i did leave it a little too vague......but my intention was to consider Turnaround J more as a one-on-one play with the ball, which somehow ended up creating separation from the defender......whether it be via schrempf's length & height, worthy's quickness, aguirre's/dantley's rump roast behinds, alex english' hollow chest, etc

i meant only true Turnaround J's like Hakeem's pet move when he was iso'ed.......these seemed to be king's and mashburn's go-to moves also - as opposed to bird's usual step-back or catch-turn-and-shoot J's...

also those who voted "other" - please specify who!

I am a HUGE fan of Grant Hill's mid-range game.

But, Imma have to go with Larry legend.

I wasn't watching basketball thought most of the 80s, but I assume Larry Bird would be a safe answer?

great list of names. functionality, I'd have to go with Dantley, meaning he will truly back his man down and get off great shots.

hard to argue against Bird though, such a natural shooter, like Dirk is today.

Mash was pretty nasty for a few years. Too bad injuries ended his career early.

I consider Tracy McGrady's turnaround jumper to be the best-looking. Not the most efficient, but it is something to watch...

P.S. Orlando-day turnarounds. Not the 2 inch vertical turn arounds he puts up now.

Sam Casell has a great step back fade-away, although he's a 1-2 combo.

I know the answer is obvious, but I like Detlef Schrempf's game.

Agree. Dantley was the best considering his height was a stretched 6'5". He also had a variety of turn around jumpers plus he always gets fouled doing them.
