i thought yao ming speaks english.....

    i remember reading somewhere here that rudy was surprised with yao and his english. why didn't he speak it at the draft?

    Me too. I thought he was the english translator or something. I told the other guys I was watching the draft with about it and got some hell from the haters about the translator present. It was kind of embarassing. Barkley and Kenny kept hammering the point afterwards as well.

    I've heard him speak english and it's pretty good.He probably just felt more comfortable speaking his native tounge with a few million people watching.

    As was discussed, many players who don't have English as their first language choose to use an interpreter for the media for fear of being mis-quoted. In normal, inter-personal relations, they can converse without an interpreter.
