Right after he talked about Riley...he made reference to getting his little assistant in on the act too. Then he mentioned how JVG claimed he befriended friends off the court to take advantage of them on the court. What is the point of mentioning that? He told his coach that he made a mistake. He said this after he flew out the dude that beat him for the final spot in high school...just to mention that the guy probably has as much game now as he had then...and mentioned it was a mistake to pick him over Mike. What is the point of mentioning that? Why fly a dude out just so you can again point out how you were better and the coach made a mistake 30+ years ago?
He was definately bitter...I was about to mention that he called out JVG before you posted this. Jordan said that he was motivated because they froze him out. I can't believe he couldn't let go of the past.
why hasn't he been able to channel all this competitive drive into the front office? i mean he has really sucked as a GM with blunders upon blunders
Just listened to the speech. What in the hell are you all complaining about? He clearly stated how he loved all these people but that, in basketball, you have to use various things to motivate you, whether real or perceived slights. The only thing that came remotely close to being an attack without him saying something nice was against Van Gundy. Everything else- absolutely nothing wrong with what he said. God, oversensitive bunch of Nancys. Listen to it again- terrific speech and nothing bitter at all- just a further glimpse into his competitive spirit and why he is the GOAT along with Hakeem.
I still don't like seeing or hearing anything to do with John Flopton. I'm sorry. MJ was good, but I'm a Rockets fan.
Honestly I think his speech was pretty self-centered and self-indulgent BUT (and that's a big "but"), Jordan had a right to tell it like it is. Some might just say he just wanted to blast all his doubters and detractors from the past 30 or so years but I think THIS is what Jordan had wanted to say all along. What Jordan said to the media during his playing days was mostly muffed IMO and was as PC as Jordan could be. He didn't tell the media what he REALLY felt and this was the last/perfect place to speak his mind (i.e., "I'm better than everyone and I'm not afraid to admit it anymore. It's time for me to get that recognition I deserve"). Even when Mike Wilbon asked him if being called the GOAT meant much to him in their interview, anyone watching it KNEW Jordan wanted to say "yes, because I AM the GOAT" but he had to mind his Ps and Qs and give the PC/sales pitch answer. As for the Krause incident, yea Krause and everyone else in that organization (from Reinsdorf all the way down to Jack Haley) could have made it a better send off for the championship team that what had transpired. After that 6th ring, whoever can honestly say that the Bulls would have won next year is delusional. "The Shot" was the way everyone wanted to remember Jordan by and he should have acknowledged that "hey, that was as good as it was gonna get". But the extreme competitiveness in Jordan wouldn't allow it. If you grew up watching him play, Jordan's speech is something that should be watched over the course of your life because it not only showed Jordan in his most humanistic form (and not the basketball idol) and in his most non-marketing form.
when i was growing up i disliked MJ dearly just because dream was my fav player and rox my fav team of course. but i still respected the man just because of his competitive nature. that was what the whole speech was about. why he is like he is. MJ is just a competitor you cant hate on the man just cause he wants to win all the time. Dream was the same way but he just never spoke out on it but im pretty sure all the greats are the same way that is what makes them great. Magic, Bird, Russel, Wilt, and so one. if you dont have the competitive fire you will never be great (ie tmac). i liked the speech. (especially calling out the knicks and jazz haha)
lol, what the hell? those were clearly playful jabs. people seriously think he was actually taking shots at those people he mentioned? i mean, really?
I bet that was Isiah. I surmise that only the jealous type would begrudge Jordan's speech. It was his moment and that's what he chose to say. Big deal. Actually it felt like a speech more for a roast, and it was him doing the roasting.
I was thinking the same thing? He has all the money in the world....but his fashion sense is that of a hobo/bum.
LOL @ you suggesting Isiah. HA! The freeze out thing could of been left out I guess. Everything else I was fine with.
