Will Ming miss just this year's training camp.....

    ......or, will it be every year's? How often does China's National team play? Since he won't be around until the regular season starts, how long will it be before he gets significant PT?

    He's going to miss the first 2 weeks from what I understand...I think that amounts to about 1/2 of camp and preseason games.

    He's only here for the LAST 2 WEEKS. It won't happen every year, but it will happen every 2 years when there is a world competition i.e. the Olympics and the World Championships.

    Actually the Olympics and World Championships are earlier in the summer and I'm pretty sure don't conflict with training camp or preseason. It would be an issue for the Americans and Europeans as well if they did.

    It's the Asian Games that occur in October and run into NBA training camp. I think these happen every four years, including this year. Then there's the Asian Championships or something like that - I don't know how often these are or when in the summer they take place.

    There was a report on this that said he would miss the first two weeks this year but that this wouldn't happen again until 2005.

    Somewhere it said he wouldn't come until mid october. The preseason usually starts around oct. 10th.

    Ya, but there are alot of summer leagues. That is when the young players get a chance to get acclimated to the system.

    That's cool. So he will have two weeks of preseason/training camp until the regular season this year.

    BUT, for 2003 and 2004 he will be here in the States with the Rockets over the summer to work on his game and his strenght. Those will be critical times for his development!

    Actually, training camp usually opens around the first of October.
