The only skepticism I had about that Pistons trade proposal is that everyone kept changing the alleged Pistons players that were proposed when it was talked about.
CF, thanks for the response! I'm intrigued that the vote was so pro-Morey; I thought there would be more people out there critical of his moves or his approach. These next two seasons are going to be critical times - but also times of great opportunity. How DM navigates these waters will shape the course of the team for years to come. I'm looking forward to seeing how things play out...for better or for worse, it certainly won't be boring.
That is a pretty overwhelming poll response. Great job not titling the thread "was getting Morey worth it".
man the more i look at things the more i don't see us get a deal done to trade tmac. there are a few trading partners out there for us with deals that actually make sense. the only great one for us would be a bosh/calderon for tmac exchange. everything else is just garbage or gives us excessively long contracts. like you got a monta/capt jack/claxton trade for tmac that would work but jack is signed thru 2013. maybe nola with a cp3/peja swap for tmac and cook? peja's 15 million in 2010 is horrible but we would get the best pg in the game out of it. i dunno..maybe i am missing something but there just isn't that much out there.
I think Morey's awesome. Granted, we haven't ever had money to spend, so the next offseason is going to be Morey's biggest test yet in terms of his GM ability. But as of right now, the guy can basically do no wrong.
i feel that trading for scola for just about nothing .... brooks in late first round ... an landry in the second ... is a job well done .... not to mention finding some gems as von wafer ...
I love Morey more than I ever loved a GM, but I agree that he hasn't acquired any allstar talent. CD did that in bunches, unfortunately, he wasn't as good at evaluating talent as Morey. Nevertheless, I'm confident in his abilities. He will land a big time player in due time.
Sam, the detroit deal was exactly the one offered to denver. Billups and mcdyess for tracy. It wasn't prince and rip norr was it billups and rip. For the record , I voted he's done a good job, but just as those say he doesn't have money to spend, the same can be said for sa,la,utah, clev, orl, bos, and dallas yet it doesn't stop them from getting high end talent for basically nothing
He has been above average so far.He is in a tough spot which will take time for us to get out of,the last word on him has yet to be spoken. How has handles things from now onwards will determine his long term status as a GM. I'm of the opinion that this short term gain by trying to make the playoffs is commendable, but it won't help us much in the long term.
I'm not sure I get the comparison. Are you implying Morey could've done better by (A) become a GM 10 years earlier so he can compete with SA on the foreign scene before everyone else (B) find a former Rockets GM who's willing to give us an all-star for free (C) find an owner who doesn't know the meaning of the luxury tax (D) Tank for a high pick either to get a superstar or so other teams are willing to trade their stars Not sure how Utah belongs here, since they got capspace AND a #3 pick to rebuild around.
And Boston definitely doesn't belong in there - they sucked for years before the Garnett trade, and they definitely did not give up nothing for Garnett as Al Jefferson is hardly a bad player. Boston got good by stockpiling a ton of young talent and then trading them for an all-star - a strategy which looks kind of familliar at this point, wouldn't you say?
If you're implying that we have a ton of young talent, I would say we have good young role players, but no difference maker eg Al Jefferson.
I'm sure Morey could get some difference makers if he had as many lottery picks as the celtics this past decade.
As i've said before... Next Summer will determine if Morey is a elite GM in this league or not. By then, we'll know which direction the Rockets are really moving forward. The Rockets are only a hand few of teams that doesn't have much money tied up for next season. It will be very interesting to see what happens. Whatever happens to T-Mac will play a big part on this as well. We shall see. He's done a good so far. Let's hope he does a great job...
Boston didn't give up a ton of young talent. They basically traded the no 5 pick and al Jefferson for kg and ray allen. The rest of what they gave up was mediocre. The celtics got very lucky that minn was in such a bad situation.
You guys act like all-stars grow on trees. DM cannot pull any strings without LA's permission... that means we cannot trade Yao (as much as some of us want him gone) and due to T-Mac's condition and the hole he put the Rox in, he cannot easily trade him either. A lot of you are acting like he can just take T-Mac back to Wal-Mart and get a refund in store credit. Right now, assuming that T-Mac recovers to at least 60%, he can only get us draft picks (which are unproven) or another role player. We already have a boatload of role players and given the projected cap space in 2010 off season we really only have three choices: 1. Trade T-Mac before deadline 2. Hope T-Mac recovers and sign him cheap (hopefully along with Yao) 3. Let him go and hope we can sign an all-star talent for about 12-15 mil since that is probably all we have left. Good news for DM is that he doesn't have to worry about signing Yao until 2011...
The Rockets can trade Tracy for another expiring plus a future draft pick, probably a 2011 draft pick. Then the player traded for could be released. This is an easy way for Morey to get an extra pick and Morey is dangerous with picks.
He has built a great core of youth and athleticism that this team has been yearning for since the championships era. With that, he will be making a big move to acquire a young stud to be the future of the Rockets along with our other players. He has built a championship contender with 2 of the most injury prone superstars in, arguably, the history of the franchise. His next move with either dealing Tracy’s contract for some real players or keeping it and letting it run off will make it the most important move he’s done as far as the direction of the team goes. I don’t doubt that we will come out on the winning end of any deal. And that will more than likely quiet the critics of us not going for the Piston’s offer of Billup’s bloated contract & Prince another wing defender with no ability to create. This coming up year will be the greatest for us, lots of excitement and anticipation.
