I saw Franchise on Channel 2 at 6 today. He pretty much discredits all of the anti-Yao talk supposedly attributed to him. I was able to jot down most of what he said. "...for us to see video of him was real good. If you get a 7'5" guy who can pass, score and do all the things he can do you have to take him and I'm grateful we have a guy like him."
Hmm....what a change....I wonder what kind of reincarnation he has gone through to finally realize Ming's potential...
Simple...he and the others saw the highlight reel the Rockets put together for him. Like many others he had never seen the guy in action before and had nothing to go by. os
I find this so hard to believe that none of these players even researched, cared or wanted to know anything about the players we were going to draft until a few days before the actual draft? As a player, how can you not take an interest in your job and not do ANY research? I tell you what, I bet NONE of the Rockets read this site.... cause if they did, they'd have known something about MING!?!?!?!?!
Excellent, glad to hear it. So much for the "there is another strike against his character" argument the Haters loved to use.
Pfffff!!! NBA players don't sit around wondering what rookies are gonna do. Even if they are #1 picks. Did Olajuwon wonder about Kenny Thomas before the draft? That's the way these guys are, the don't respect rookies until they prove it on the court. We're fans, so of course we spend a lot of time on Ming, but they are just waiting for training camp and will let management handle the decisions.
Can Steve do anything right? People complained when they heard rumors that Steve was against drafting Yao. Now that Steve has dispelled those rumors, people are complaining that he took too long to join the Yao bandwagon. Come on now, give our all-star point guard a little credit.
Sounds very positive and encouraging. Can't wait till August when Yao can show them more of what he can do. Props to Francis for his comment. -G'day-
Can you imagine this team? Yao Ming setting a high pick and roll? Yao seeing the whole floor from the high post, hitting a cutting Steve, Cat, KT (maybe), Eddie, or Nachbar for the slam? Yao in the low post, passing out to Steve or Cat or Rice or Nachbar for the 3 pointer? Nachbar popping the three or dropping his defender's jock with a drive through the lane? Ahhhh....soon begins the long dry season with only the summer camps and eventually the training camps and such....but, I tell ya, this season is gonna rock. (Especially since the Rockets will be on TV so much from now on!)
I don't think Steve was ever negative towards Ming but was just saying he wan't a sure bet to make the team better.
Gene Peterson needs to mix a tape that says "How Sweet it Is", and run it contiuously for a little over 2 hours during every game next season. Go Rockets!!

Will Houston media welcome him like this? http://image2.sina.com.cn/ty/k/2002-06-27/3_6-12-44-270_20020627194246.jpg
