The description is surprisingly accurate for Chicago especially for the econ/poli-sci/pub-policy/is majors. (I would know since i was recently an econ major). JuanValdez-what was year was your class at UofC? Duke's description and rank fits them perfectly--wouldn't wanna rank them #1 in anything no matter what All that being said, I think UChicago has room for improvement in the douche department
Ok I think we can all agree that popped collars are douchey as hell. But what exactly is wrong with khaki shorts, a shirt, and sunglasses? What else are you supposed to wear in the Texas summer?
Its how you wear those items. Is that shirt pastel? Does it sport an obnoxious logo? Are those sunglasses worn on the polo shirts neck opening or held with a string thingy? Do they complete the ensemble with boat shoes? Do they tuck in?
My wife and I graduated in 1997, right before they destroyed the Common Core. Maybe the culture has changed some since the '90s. I'll concede the intellectual vanity, though I think the student population didn't actually have enough of the social graces to actually adopt affectations. Same with the talking down. Which makes the particular douche label confusing; 'douche' to me implies trying to achieve a certain look; U of C students were notable for having no control over how they looked. They also seem to want to imply that it's a politically conservative school, which is ridiculous.
Nothing really, but those brown shoes that kids used to wear without socks looked pretty dorky to me. Also, the shorts were usually borderline tight in my opinion.
6th is more of a Texas State/Concordia strip. The UT students are too busy trying to stay green and smelling their own farts. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/VLpx_yioYik&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/VLpx_yioYik&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
Whoever made the douche list probably wishes they went to one of the douche schools. That's usually how it is. Sure, I will call a popped-collar, millionaire snob kid at Harvard a douche too, but if someone came up to me and said "Here's a million dollars, a BMW, a popped collar polo, and a trust fund", I'm not going to turn it down...
The meaning of the term 'douchebag' has been bastardized through improper usage from its etymological origins. the scope of its applicability has been widened so greatly that the word has essentially lost all value. contrary to popular usage, 'douchebaggery' is NOT synonymous with metrosexualism or pretentious snobbery/elitism. 'douchebaggery' is the descriptive qualifier characterizing 'guido' culture, the extreme fringe within metrosexualism most notably typified by popped collars, barbed wire tattoos, affliction tees, and certain particular facial hair patterns and hairstyles. rockets center david anderson is a total douchebag, albeit a much subtler breed than those found at texas state. a well groomed male attuned to fitness and attired in custom tailored dress shirts is NOT necessarily a douchebag. that is a metrosexual, and while you may find reason for ridicule, use the right damn word, otherwise you are only contributing to the decay of the english language.
