I like to think that I'm a pretty big Stanley Kubrick fan. However, I just realized yesterday that "Buck Turgidson" was a character in "Dr. Strangelove". Okay, okay, "Dr. Strangelove" is one of the few Kubrick movies I don't like, but I still should have realized it. So, I see a post from a poster named "ClockworkOrange" today and of course we have "Buck Turgidson" posting here. I'm assuming that both are Kubrick fans but you know what happens when you assume.... Anyway, I have a feeling that there might be other Kubrick fans here. If you are a Kubrick fan, speak up and let us know what your favorite Kubrick movie is. I like "A Clockwork Orange" a lot, but I got to go with "Full Metal Jacket" as my all-time favorite Kubrick movie. "The Shining", "Lolita", and "2001" are close seconds. Hell, I even liked "Eyes Wide Shut", so that makes me a true Kubrick fan...lol. "Barry Lyndon" is a good movie as well...just wished it wasn't so damn long.
"You are nothing but unorganized grab@sstic pieces of amphibian ****." Full Metal Jacket fans, send me an email - I've got an awesome audio file I'll forward along. It's hard to pick a favorite movie of his: The Shining, FMJ, 2001, The Killing (good call Hanout Boy, very overlooked movie), Clockwork Orange, & Strangelove are all great. I've seen Full Metal Jacket a few dozen times - some of the best dialogue I've ever heard is in that movie - so mebbe that's my favorite.
1) Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb 2) Paths of Glory 3) Spartacus 4) the Shining 5) Barry Lyndon
I liked Eyes Wide Shut. . . I felt that Nicole Kidman did an excellent job, at being naked. The supporting cast also did a great job, at being really naked. Seriously though, I think Full Metal Jacket is his best. The ending of that movie sticks with me, especially the soldiers marching and singing the Micky Mouse Club song.
Hm...only seen "Full Metal Jacket" and "Eyes Wide Shut"..EWS wasn't half bad. But Full Metal Jacket was awesome..all my friends of course enjoy the first half...but the second half is equally great in my eyes.... I watched the first 15 minutes of "2001" and thought I was gonna shoot myself.
Kubrick was always very strange to me. 1. The Shining 2. FMJ A Clockwork Orange was interesting, I don't know if I liked it or hated it... 2001 was so slow I didn't get out of the first 15 minutes, I do own 2001 and 2010 on DVD, so I will watch them someday. EWS was so-so, I liked the nudity of course but I am not sure what the movie was about. I am going to watch Dr. Strangelove soon, I have heard it is good?
Yes.....but different from some of his later works. It is among my top five favorites. Manny Work on more descriptive thread titles because I bypassed this thread until I saw it had some action/interest from others. Mango
I know Mango. I thought about that after I submitted it, but it is too late now unless a mod changes the title. You never told us what your top 5 was other than Dr. Strangelove, so what is it??
Nothing creeps my wife out more than when I say: Come play with us Johnny... Forever... and ever..... and ever..... The Shining is one of the few movies out there that I enjoyed as much as the book. Strangely, the only two others I can think of were Novella's out of the same book from the same Author as the Shining: Shawshank Redemption and Stand by me. As with everyone else, I also love Full Metal Jacket, but I've really enjoyed Kubrick's other movies as well. For the longest time, I would list him and David Lynch as my two favorite directors.

I always liked it when Hartman first meets Private Leonard Lawrence aka "Private Gomer Pyle" and asks him if he is royalty because of his last name, Lawrence. He then says that the only people he knows named Lawrence are sailors and -----. Then he asks him if he sucks ****. He says no of course, and Hartman replies "Bullsh!t! I bet you can suck a golfball through a garden hose!" Classic line right there!
