Good shooting. And yes, there have been several occasions where the "victim" shot and only wounded the intruder and the intruder successfully sued the "victim".

Moral of the story: shoot to kill.

"No one should die" doesn't stop the consequences from happening. If they are breaking into somebody's home, they can expect to die from a gunshot.

When that situation occurs, you don't have time to inquire about the intruder's age & intent. The adrenaline flow causes you to aim at the center of your target, hoping to hit & disable them. It is sad that the teens died for a stupid act! But, I would bet that their families would have done the same thing in that situation.

In 93, my youngest son thought about going to college in San Marcus. His mom wasn't too thrilled about that, because at that time Southwest Texas State was THE party school of Texas. Didn't bother me though. Anyway, I agree with KingCheetah that some interesting info will come out about the occupants of that house. Channel 5 in San Antonio reported last night that 1 of the occupants had a gun & guitar collection. I wouldn't be surprised if drugs weren't involved as well. Why else would 4 teens drive from Luling to San Marcus at 2 am on a Friday morning?

This. I'm someone breaks into my home, I'm not going to try and guess their intent. They immediately become a threat to everyone who's in my home and I'm going to protect it. I'm really surprised people feel sorry for these people. I promise if many who disagree were in the same position, their takes on the situation would be drastically changed.

If you fire, and the rest scream, "let's get out of here" and run for the door, do you continue to shoot at them in the back?

If you hit one of the kids, and they're squirming on the floor screaming in pain, do you shoot to kill in the off chance its a bluff?

If I shoot and they run, all I have to say is, they better run faster than the 2nd bullet. :)

Shooting them in the back gets you into a tough situation because technically they are no longer a threat if they retreat.

Yes. Because if they are not dead, they can sue you (if they are white). And can you imagine the pain they are in? Put them out of their misery already!

No. i wouldn't shoot anyone in the back. That being said, just the blanket statement "let's get out of here" would not prevent me from shooting in that area again. When I physically witnessed them moving out of the home, I would cease fire.

Wow. No bro, that's murder IMO. I would call an ambulence to pick the person up and let the dispatchers know what happened

The intent here is not to kill someone, but rather protect yourself and the ones you love.

I don't think the homeowners were thinking about how old the intruders were at the time. Perhaps they looked older than their actual age? Either way, if someone breaks into my house, wondering how old they are isn't exactly the first thing that would come to my mind.

4 guys with guns entering your property. If you scare away 2 with a warning shot, thats STILL 2 more you gotta deal with outnumbering you. Yeah when you see that, best to start picking them apart 1 by 1. That is NOT neutral ground, the 4 robbers instigated the action trespassing into someone else's territory with THEIR guns. They brought about a life and death scenario.

Homeowner is lucky he even had a gun imo... If no one was armed robbers or homeowner, the robbers could have easily jumped the homeowner and beaten him to death with the homeowner having no deterrent or protection of any kind.

I don't know why everyone keeps referring to the fact that the intruders were armed. Even if they weren't visibly armed, if 4 guys break into my house then I think it's well within my rights to defend my self and property by any means necessary. Once they illegally entered that house all bets are off.

My thoughts exactly. I would be REALLY interested in cases where the armed intruders sued the home/property owner for shooting them.

Well you don't know if they're breaking in to throw you a surprise tea party.

I believe that the reason why you don't shoot them...

Man, I think he should feel guilty. Yes, the teens came in his house, yes they had a gun. But they are thousands of ways to shoot a person without killing them. He could of shoot them in the foot, arm legs, but no, he decides to either shoot them in the head or stomach.

I don't think that can happen, cause if a intruder came in another person's house, its legal for a person to shoot them. The law is behind the the homeowner on these type of cases.
