No kidding. It kills me that nokia is having such trouble getting carrier support. Admittedly, their last two smartphones were cruddy, but this one.... i mean, damn.

I don't know how wellsuited the OS is to running Xwindows, but if they can migrate trivially, the iphone will have a serious app competitor.

I was anti-apple for a long time (just like some Harley riders, some apple/Mac users can be quite the as.hole) so when the wife wanted an iPhone I said something like "wait until the next generation".

She finally got the 3G and tried to show it to me.

MEH! (wouldn't even look at it)

Months later I finally picked her iPhone up.

I was blown away by the apps.

Next day I drop Verizon, picked up ATT, paid the fines and bought an iPhone.

    I am soooooo fr.cking hooked!

edit: I'd like to admit that I've never own a BB.

Nokia is definitly recognizing it's failure points and moving in the right direction. Nokia will eventually ditch Symbian and go full steam ahead with maemo which is a good thing...if they want to keep up with RIM, APPL, and Sammy that is....Once carriers realize Maemo's capabilities, I think we'll see some of their insanely priced handsets at prices we're used to.

I used the unlocked version of the Nokia e71 and this was one of those odd cases of, the cover is way better than the contents. The E71 is probably one of the top phone designs in the last 5 years. However symbian s60 blows...hard. IMO. I remember using a nokia phone with symbian 8 years ago?...not much as changed. Ferrari with a 4 banger won't do...

Call me crazy but I think Windows Phone 7 is gonna surprise a lot of people. I'm willing to bet project pink will be a direct competitor with the iphone 4.0 next year.

Our Microsoft TAM said that the new Windows 7 Mobile is definitely better than the previous versions but that it is still a resource hog and slow. He says that M$ has been recruiting iPhone developers to work on future versions of the Mobile OS and he thinks that the version after Win7 Mobile will be the first to compete with the iPhone. He says that will be the first version where they are developing ahead of their time instead of trying to keep up.

    He has an iPhone.

You may have carrier choices next year. Verizon with it's LTE 4gen networks and ATT of course. Macworld is in Feb so they could possible announce a verizon branded iPhone.

Here is where it gets sticky, ATT extended their exclusivity contract with APPL into 2010. Now how far into 2010 is the question. I willing to bet the contract ends sometime in the summer after iPhone 4.0 is released which will allow the VZ iphone to be released.

Now ATT would be absolutely crazy not to get on their knees and print money for Jobs and APPL to stay exclusive, but I think APPL has had it with the limitations, BS, and sketchy 3G network of ATT.

BB for BBM alone. It's hard to explain, but BBM is just far superior to SMS or any other chat client.

I was hoping 6.5 was definitely better and that 7 would compete. HA.

awesome feature that I miss dearly. it's surprising that APPL hasn't created a PAY app that replicates the BB messenger and there are millions of iphone users (with friends) out there...

the sms feature on the iphone is slow as molasses, but hey we get MMS on the 25th. Hey ATT...the year 2001 called and wants MMS back

Yeah it's great if most of your friends have BBs.

BB messenger as a selling point is pretty weak. G Chat just seems like the better alternative as a lot of people have Google accounts and you can communicate from multiple devices.

And not having to deal with menus all the time on an iPhone is so underrated. I hate BBs and having to scroll through so much stuff to get to what you want.
