From the little that I've heard about him is that he has no post up moves and can't defend at all. If this is correct,it doesn't seem like a cheap signing that can help us down the line at all. We do need height, length and defense, but someone with genuine potential is required. Easier said than done, obviously.
Well PJ does provide some of those...... 7'3 with a 7'6 wingspan, and his only 24 yrs old, he also moves well for someone his size, I think he can be a decent back up center..... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/irH4KGfmyIU&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/irH4KGfmyIU&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> -rocketblaze
Friedman Called Ramos a Fringe Nba Player in the Rockets chat yesterday. People asked if we where interested in him and his response was basically a flat out no. With the signing of Pops we are caring 17 players so I would be surprised if this guy really is signed.
he's a 7'3 mikki moore with less hustle but better shot blocking. a decent player internationally but only a backup's backup in the nba (at least on a decent team). he's also not a great talent despite his relatively young age.
The workouts were from last month as were Pops's. Maybe Pops beat him out for a training camp contract? This spanish article from Aug 25th article claims he was already under contract with a chinese team. His work out with the Rockets was done without getting clearance from the chinese team. So they voided his contract. http://www.marca.com/2009/08/25/baloncesto/nba/1251213377.html http://translate.google.com/translate_t# Maybe his agent's drumming up interest in the NBA by leaking these rumors since he no longer has a contract?
PJ Ramos plays for the Puerto Rico National team. Last night he faced Argentina (and Scola). Here's how he and Scola did: Ramos: 19mins. 14pts (6/7FG, 2/4FT) 12boards (2off) 1TO, 2Stl. Scola: 32mins. 25pts (9/14FG, 6/8FT), 12boars (1off) 3TO, 1Stl, 1Blk. He also hit a 3pointer Ramos is big and strong, and can finish with authority. Can grab some boards but doesnt look more than a back-up player at this point. Also for those who ask about Priogioni, 11pts, 12as. (much harder to get credit with an assist in FIBA basketball) Game recap: SAN JUAN (2009 FIBA Americas Championship) - Argentina won their fifth straight game at the FIBA Americas Championship and at the same time became the third team to book a ticket for the 2010 FIBA World Championship after beating Puerto Rico 80-78. Puerto Rico lost their first game but they qualified along with Brazil. Luis Scola led with 25 points and 12 rebounds while guard Pablo Prigioni netted 11 points and had 12 assists for Argentina. Leo Gutierrez helped with 12 points and Juan Gutierrez with Federico Kammerichs had 8 each. Puerto Rico had a great first quarter from long distance led by Ayuso and Sanchez while Carlos Arroyo led all of them with 8 points. Peter John Ramos was also key on offense making 6 points as Puerto Rico won the first quarter 22-14. Luis Scola had 6 points for Argentina and Roman Gonzalez 5. In the second quarter came the figure of Leo Gutierrez from long distance along with Federico Kammerichs to spark a 14-0 run and give Argentina a 28-22 lead with 6:46 left. Gutierrez made four three pointers to give Argentina a 43-37 halftime advantage. Larry Ayuso and Carlos Arroyo had 10 each for Puerto Rico and Argentina had Gutierrez with 12. Argentina continued to have an efficient showing offensively in the third quarter where they finished with 10-13 from three and also Scola led from the paint to finish up 64-52. The Puerto Ricans made a courageous effort to make a comeback and with 6.1 seconds Larry Ayuso scored a three pointer to tie the game at 78. Then Pablo Prigioni was fouled with 3.3 seconds and made both free throws for the win. Larry Ayuso led Puerto Rico with 19 points, Carlos Arroyo 18, Peter John Ramos 14 and Ricky Sanchez 12. Ramos was the best rebounder with 12 and Arroyo led his team in assists with 8.
PJ Ramos is SOOOO BADDDDD. The guy can barely walk in a straight line...I have seen D-League/Summer League scrubs give this guy the business every single time I have seen him play. Joey Dorsey is MUCH better already...
Well if we sign him later on we have two big centers two strong pf's in landry and pops and we could trade scola and OR Battier for Stoudamire or scola+ Barry+Dorsey etc.
