http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/world-away-from-toronto/article1271328/ As with Joe Johnson, I think it's the smart thing for Bosh to at least think hard about given the possibility that any pro-hoopster has for serious injuries. I think Lebron James (and maybe D. Wade) might have enough in the bank already in terms of endorsement to actually have a good chance of getting into free agency and maybe making a move then (remember, though, the player's own team can still offer more years and more $ than any other team). However, teams are not guaranteed even the opportunity of having a decent consolation prize like Johnson or Bosh if they failed to sign the real top stars.
^Before BC made a huge splash in the offseason. With that roster right now, I'm not surprised at all that Bosh is considering an extension. I think it would be more wise to see how this team plays out first though before signing one considering the Raptors are known to disappoint. Kudos to Colangelo.
Raptors wouldn't want McGrady for Bosh after signing Hedo. Rockets don't have the cap space to make a play for Bosh in 2010 FA even with McGrady's contract off the books.
It depends how well the Raptors do this season. If they are soft sissies again, Bosh is gone. I wouldn't take what he says in September 2009 very seriously as a signal for what he decides next summer. This is a "feel good" story for Toronto, no more.
I think we're going to see more of the "stars of 2010" considering or actually signing an extension on their current contract. With the economy in it's present crisis, teams aren't going to want to sign big bucks stars risking LT with anticipated decreasing revenues. Plus the current CBA ends in 2010 & the new CBA is expected to lower the LT level. I only see 2 or 3 of these STARS actually changing teams.
Which----bu-wa-haahaha---makes me wonder why so many posters here are so dead-set on our cap space next summer, when we won't actually have much after (probably) re-signing Luis Scola and Morey has strongly hinted it would be best to trade for an All-Star now (perhaps a player from the 2010 list, IF he would re-sign here before next summer's free agency) rather than sit around next July praying in a church while holding a lucky charm and a rabbit's foot, hoping for divine intervention or luck.
The question is which superstar player would be open to getting traded here mid-season? I actually think Wade or Bosh might demand a trade should their teams start tanking. If you think about it, it makes sense for both the player and their team to part ways mid-season, the new team will get the player's bird rights and be able to sign him for more money, while the old team will get something in return for their player instead of just watching him walk away. I guess we'll just have to see what happens, but I won't be surprised if we end up doing a shaq-ish (multiple useful players for one star) trade mid-season.
He said he wanted to opt out of the contract itself, which includes the possibility of an extension. he never said he wanted "out" in the way you seem to understand. Post a link.
I think it's possible that Wade could move. I don't think any of the other big names will but I think Wade would prefer to win some rings and Miami looks to be sinking awfully fast.
Not that it means much, but I agree with you. It would make more sense for the Rockets to try and trade for that all-star player during the season. If a player wants to re-sign with their current team that team may as well be the Rockets!
