I don't own a cat but, if I did, then I would have no problem letting it be an indoor/outdoor cat assuming it was fixed...unless there was a law against it. The idea that as soon as I let the cat out my front door for the cat to do his business automatically would make me an irresponsible pet owner under the definitions in this thread is complete bullsh_t.
Ottoman, great points!!! If you had read anything I posted earlier you would have saw that I do deal with gators in the bayou behind my house. Again, every animal you just named is a wild animal. Your cat is your pet. There is a big difference. Wild animals are dealt with in many ways and are expected to be a nuisance. Your cat doesn't fall into this category because he is your pet, not mine or a wild animal. Comparing the 2 makes no sense at all. If I have a pitbull that I let out and he tears you up, by your logic it is your fault and you should deal with it because people in Alaska deal with bears and people in the south deal have Alligators. Does any of that change the fact that my animal just tore you to shreds and I should have had him locked up? What is the difference between that and your cat other than the amount of damage? Did something I was responsible for go in your yard and cause problems for you that you shouldn't have had to deal with? Is it your fault, and not mine because it is his nature to want to roam and attack? The arguments in this thread are ridiculous. Juicystream, you couldn't have said it any better!!! We all need to see doctors because we don't agree that you and your animals have more rights on our property than we do. They would lock us up for Domestic Violence or vandalizing if we tore up the wife's garden, pissed on the grill we eat off, vandalized cars and property, and crapped while passed out on the lawn. Bravo sir, for pointing out who the real crazy one's are.
settle down, T-man! most cat owners are responsible and fix their felines. again, I'm sorry you have had such experiences with cats. apples and oranges. i see the crazy ones as those who want to start a neighborhood militia because felix the cat pooped, sprayed, or muddied up their god given US of American LAND. GET YER CAT OFF MY LAND
Well, for starters, I submit to you that there is a slight difference between a pit bull ripping your limbs apart and a cat leaving a paw print on your windshield..
Ignore everything I said and live in fantasy world T-Man. These likely aren't pets doing these things. Pets may dig in the garden to hide their poop. They may leave paw prints on a car. I can assure you the police will not arrest me if I incidentally get some dirt on your car. I didn't call anyone crazy, but you are making me think you probably are. And yes if you are harmed by paw prints you should see a doctor. And if ArtV is serious about his car in this thread, he may very well suffer from OCD. I'm sure it annoys him, but it doesn't harm any of you. Unless the cat is spreading disease, destroying property, or physically attacking you he isn't harming you. The vast majority of complaints in here are about feral cats, not pets. Someone may feed the cats in your neighborhood, but don't consider them pets. Those cats should be caught and neutered/spayed. This is domesticated vs. wild. Lastly anyone that has not gone to your neighbors and said something to them has no business complaining about it. You aren't trying to correct the problem. If you can't tell who the cat belongs to, it probably isn't anyone's pet and is either abandoned or wild.
surfguy, If I let my pitbull out the front door to do his business without watching him, would it make me an irresponsible pet owner? Your definition of responsibility is bull. Ima drommer, how did you miss the part in what you quoted that said other than the damage. That is what you guys are doing, you pick apart any analogy and say it doesn't pertain when I respond because fluffs wouldn't do that. Was it I that brought up polar bears, mountain lion's, gator's or dogs? No, it was the cat people. Yet ya'll pick aprt my statements and even ignore the part you quote that refutes your own statement. Roxfan, I have had neighbors like you before. Somehow I don't find you too menacing. Fluff's would end up missing if he came on my property more than a couple of times and you would be crying and trying to file a case. Law wouldn't work for you, so you would cry some more and move. Sounds pretty terrifying
Yes, because if this thread has shown us one thing, it is how rational cat owners are when confronted with complaints...
Maybe so, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try(this is assuming Ottoman doesn't put a bullet between your eyes just for asking nicely). Saying something might help, but complaining on here will do nothing. Saying something is the best first step. Then the next is to call a complaint in which would get a ticket for a dog, unsure about cats.
and how upset people can get over trivial matters such as cat footprints on their car. Since I forgot to mention it earlier, my neighbors on both sides of me are perfectly ok with my cat being outside and roaming into their yard. I haven't check with anyone else. I also found out who was shooting my cat with a bb gun at my previous residence. The guy and his wife were on great terms with me and knew the cat was mine yet they never said a word. It was only after I moved that the new owners of the home (who are great friends with me) let me know that the guy bragged about shooting my cat without realizing they own two outside cats.
It's annoying to come outside to your car and see a freaking cat sitting on the top of your car. My car is black and minor scratches can appear from cats. The scratches can be buffed out for the most part, but that's besides the point.
I agree. It's also annoying to come out and see that the wind picked up a blew pines cones (or a branch) out of the neighbor's tree that hit your car (they can scuff paint). I just think if someone is wound that tightly over things like micro-scratches on their car then they should put it in the garage....or get on valium. Life is fully of minor inconveniences so I am having a hard time understanding people who get so upset over them.
And somewhere DD is laughing as I am sure this thread represents to him some kind of "major award". You haven't told anybody who has been here awhile anything earth shattering but I applaud your post, nonetheless. Nero summed up best several pages ago (hard to believe that a thread on cats has gotten this long) - cats that are fixed are usually not the problem; it is the cats that are not fixed or the feral cats that are the issue. And believe me, there was a period where we had like 6 to 8 outdoor cats that were constantly roaming in our yard. Other than the fact that some of them (or maybe just one) was killing birds (which once again were the ones that weren't fixed), there weren't any problems like some of you are complaining about - definitely not anything like constantly stepping in cat poop. I just don't understand why this thread has continued as long as it has - oh wait a minute, I think I do now and Vinsanity mentioned earlier - never mind. Continue to indulge DD and make him feel important. Good job people.
Ding ding. If you don't want your car being assaulted by animals and the elements, put it in a garage. Otherwise, get over it.
Who are you to judge what someone has a right to be upset over, ESPECIALLY when it involves THEIR property? As DD would say, GEESH!
You're comparing a pitbull to a cat? lol. That's like saying "if I let my pet elephant out the front door" versus "if I let my pet flea out the front door". You keep floating that comparison if it makes you happy...just because they are both pets. Forget about the primary differences between dogs and cats. That's irrelevant. Cats attack people all the time. Sure they do.
