Dude, don't tell me you blew up him FG% stat as well. Pops shot something in the 30s last season, IRRC.

Your post doesn't make any sense.

If you read what I typed, then you know I was referring to the sample of 6 games from last season when he played at least 20 minutes. In those games he shot a combined 46.2%. Nothing too great for a PF/C, but much better than the 35.4% he shot in all 19 games with Toronto.

Of course, this isn't terribly surprising considering that stark increases in shooting %'s are quite common as players get more minutes and more shots.

It should also be noted that in the 15 NBA games he played before joining the Raptors, Pops shot 66.7% from the field in limited action.

Guy will be fighting with Dorsey for a roster spot, as the last guy on the bench. Not sure if he will be very important to us next season.

In the other, ORIGINAL Pops thread. Why this one was created is beyond me. At least the original thread has contract info

Put me in "not a fan" boat for this guy. I just don't see anything he does that Landry doesn't do better with a far mor efficient percentage.

But as I like to say... prove me wrong Pops!

the chance of POPS being a double double guy surpasses the chance we get production from Tracy McGrady, how bout that? The rockets are smart, consistently pulling diamonds from the rough, a legitimate SG makes us a contender, POPS in starting 5, in 5 months, you heard it hear first

You know it is a slow off season when fans are excited about this guy. A new ball boy may send tremors through this site.

Doubt it. Pops isn't replacing Scola or Landry.

He has more athleticism than anyone in Rocket Red.

If it's between Pops and Dorsey, Pops will beat out Joey for the spot.

OP, it's cool that you are high on this guy but if he's so awesome why hasn't he been able to stick anywhere? Other teams saw him up close and let him walk. Nobody offered him anything so far this offseason until we came along and we're a team with a desperate need to fill spots because of key injuries.

All I'm saying is he wasn't a #1 priority for us or any other team for good reason. It's nothing to do a "told you so" about. He was picked up off the scrapheap. Those rags to riches stories are beautiful and all but they are rare and my guess is this won't be one of them.

    per wikipedia

For the 2007–08 season, he played with the Italian Serie A team Benetton Treviso, averaging 8.3 points and 9.2 rebounds, shooting 59% from the floor and 77% from the free-throw line. During the following summer, there was much uncertainty whether he would return to the NBA or sign a contract in Spain, but he finally inked a one-year deal with the Spanish ACB team DKV Joventut.[3] He was released in December due to a shoulder injury, after averaging 18.5 points per game in 2 league matches.

In February 2009, Mensah-Bonsu began playing with the Austin Toros, the San Antonio Spurs NBA D-League affiliate. In his eight games with the Toros, Mensah-Bonsu averaged 26.6 points, 13.0 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game.

His Benneton Treviso stats are actually reversed in the wiki entry.

Instead of 8.3pts and 9.2 rebs, it's actually 9.2 pts and 8.3 rebounds 59% FG, and 54.6% FT.

The D-league stats are impressive, but it has to be taken with a grain of salt. It's like saying you are the T-Mac of the Greek league(sorry, V-span :) ). There is a reason that these players are the T-Mac of Greece/D-League and not of the NBA.

For example, James White averaged 25.9 pts, 5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1 steal. He was the Kobe of the D-League and turned in an inconsistent performance, during the summer league games.

Can this guy shoot like landry though? because I don't think we should trade landry if this guy is replacing him

Did you forget James "Flight" White is on the Rockets? I'd even say Joey Dorsey is more athletic than Pops.

You guys are honestly gonna be close minded to him yet you accept Chuck Hayes? 6'6 pf who cant hit free throws? vs a 6'9 guy who can at the least do that. plus we can trade him for stoudamire later on :D

Doesn't it make sense that when he played better in a given game, he got more minutes? The coach left him IN.

    You're joking, right?

Chuck's a great defender, but you exaggerated quite a bit.
