It's a little messy but you could roto-root it. Usually bathtubs don't have the most linear piping though and it's a pain. You could try it still.

I did mine last night and now it works like a charm. I pulled out about a large mouse size clump of hair. I brought it down to my wife and scared the hell out of her because she really thought it was a mouse. (she didn't know what I had been doing upstairs)

I used a wet/dry vac that I bought for $30 with a $7 attachment that is like a suction cup made for removing clogs. I bought the attachment at Harbor Freight Tools.

It took less than 10 minutes and worked very well. Much cheaper than having a plumber come out. While I was at it I was able to do the sinks too.

LOL, there is nothing wrong with using Drano. You aren't going to blow up.

Slow bathtub and shower drains are caused by hair. I'm not sure if Drano is much good for hair clogs.

I've used Drano plenty of times. House still hasn't exploded yet.

Drano once then shave/wax your entire body to prevent a repeat episode.

    1) Put a wash cloth over the drain to keep the screws from falling down the drain.
    2) Remove the screws from the drain toggle (the thing that controls the water flow).
    3) Remove the drain toggle and the wire is attached to it. The end of the wire will be a coil that will most likely have a gross amount of hair. You may have to jiggle and/or remove the drain plug to remove the wire completely.
    4) Clean the coil of all the hair/junk.
    5) Put it all back in reverse order. Be very careful that you don't drop a screw down the drain.
    6) Now start shaving your back hair outside with an electric razor to keep this from happening again.

I'm not joking when I say I've heard of people dumping a bottle of coca cola down a drain to unclog it.
