I was hoping that the Liars 2nd album would come today but it did not (guess I will have to wait til Monday). So, I am listening to some great late '60s rock with a little Traffic thrown in: Disraeli Gears - Cream The Doors - The Doors Forever Changes - Love The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys - Traffic The Notorious Byrd Brothers - The Byrds Music From Big Pink - The Band with that effin Levon Helm on drums, vocals, and other instruments
kill me now, i had no idea who this was when i heard it at the gym. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9l47wGBcr2A&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9l47wGBcr2A&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Merry Christmas (and rarities) - Daniel Johnston Retired Boxer - Daniel Johnston Respect - Daniel Johnston Street - Herman Brood
Why? I know most on here will stick with the original as their preference, but I actually like this remake. She sang her heart out on it especially at the end and really made it her own while staying true to the original
A Sunny Day in Glasgow - Ashes Grammar (Philly dreampop, sophomore album) Soror Delorosa - Severance (RIYL Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy) Memory Tapes - Seek Magic (RIYL Boards of Canada, Air France) Pinkshinyultrablast - Happy Songs For Happy Zombies (Russian 'gazers debut EP, like Slowdive meets Lush) The Twilight Sad - Forget the Night Ahead (broody Scottish shoegaze, AOTY contender for sure)
Time to go back and listen to my 20 favorite CDs of all time. It's a hard list to create because there are so many recordings to choose from- 1,000s, spanning from the 1950s to the 2000s. With the proverbial gun to my head, I'd have to say: 1. Bruce Springsteen- Born To Run 2. Marvin Gaye- What's Going On 3. Van Morrison- Astral Weeks 4. U2- Achtung Baby 5. REM- Murmur 6. Bruce Springsteen- The E Street Shuffle 7. The Clash- London Calling 8. Prince- Purple Rain 9. The Who- The Who By Numbers 10. Derek and the Dominoes- Layla 11. Bob Dylan- Highway 61 Revisited 12. Soundtrack- The Harder They Come (reggae) 13. Cheap Trick- Live at Budokan 14. The Rolling Stones- Exile on Main Street 15. Sly and the Family Stone- There's a Riot Going On 16. The Beatles- The White Album 17. Rush- Power Windows 18. Radiohead- OK Computer 19. The Pretenders- Learning to Crawl 20. Led Zeppelin- Led Zeppelin III Whew. Tough call- so many great recordings out there (and this list is obviously biased towards pre-1990 stuff).
Today's ipod mix: George Jones - Greatest Hits Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours Les Paul and Mary Ford - Greatest Hits Passion Pit - Manners
listening to: Bon Iver- For Emma, Forever ago The National- Alligator The National- Boxer Joy Division- Substance Joy Division- Unknown Pleasures R.E.M.- Murmur
Yes? Good song, by the way, but I would much rather prefer the original by Foreigner. Would NOT listen to by Mariah; Madonna, on the other hand, is a different story.
Great list, dando (as always) - I have all of those albums except #12 and #15 (I should really have that one but haven't gotten around to getting it yet). You have inspired me to list my 25 (I can't do 20) favorite albums. I have one stipulation, only 1 album per artist. Remember - this was really hard for me to do! In no particular order: 1 - What's Going On? - Marvin Gaye 2 - Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd 3 - Blood on the Tracks - Bob Dylan 4 - After the Gold Rush - Neil Young 5 - Disraeli Gears - Cream 6 - The Band aka The Brown Album - The Band 7 - Mr. Tambourine Man - The Byrds 8 - Innervisions - Stevie Wonder 9 - Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen 10 - Led Zeppelin II - Led Zeppelin 11 - Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie 12 - Crime of the Century - Supertramp (you better believe that it belongs on this list!) 13 - Into the Music - Van Morrison (just barely over Astral Weeks) 14 - Rain Dogs - Tom Waits (absolutely brilliant) 15 - Kid A - Radiohead (ditto for this one, too) 16 - Agaetis Byrjun - Sigur Ros 17 - In a Silent Way - Miles Davis 18 - Blue Train - John Coltrane 19 - Selling England by the Pound - Genesis 20 - Close to the Edge - Yes 21 - Who's Next - The Who 22 - Country Life - Roxy Music (greatest album that hardly anyone has ever heard) 23 - Loveless - My Bloody Valentine 24 - The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses 25 - Screamadelica - Primal Scream I'm still hoping against hope that my Liars CD comes today but other than that, I am going to start today by going through Bowie's entire catalog in chronological order starting with "David Bowie" first.
Great list, Manny! Really tough to decide among all the great CDs out there. I'll definitely check out the Roxy Music one- haven't heard that yet. Yes, The Harder They Come and There's a Riot Going On are definitely essential. Don't mean to keep harping on them, either, but the most recent one from Cheap Trick, The Latest- that thing is really a departure of sorts for that band- orchestral instruments, a Radiohead touch on the first song, a totally whacked out psychedelic song "Closer,"- the more I listen, the more I'm convinced that it could be the best thing they've ever done- including Budokan (well, maybe). Only 3 CDs had an "instant classic" impact on me the very first time I heard them, "Achtung Baby," "Kick" from INXS, and "The Latest." Oh, and Public Enemy, the one that's called "It Takes a Nation of Millions..." or something like that. Very powerful stuff.
Yesterday: They Were Wrong, So We Drowned - Liars (weird album but good) In Rainbows - Radiohead The Very Best of Supertramp - Supertramp Today, albums of Bowie: David Bowie Space Oddity The Man Who Sold the World Hunky Dory
