Someone just sent me this and I got the message. I don't need to spoiler this (click if you can watch during work or school, or wait until you get home).

    From the YouTube info pane:
** WARNING the graphic clip is professionally staged -- but does a fine job hammering its message home. In my view, it should be seen by every parent -- and imported/licensed for broadcast or school use throughout the United States from Mr. Watkins-Hughes. His contact information is available above.***

    <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5ttNgZDZruI&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5ttNgZDZruI&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

Might be NSFW because of the screams in the footage.

Be careful out there. DON'T TEXT and DRIVE.

Saw it yesterday, thought it was great, they should show that at all the schools. A throwback to those 70's defensive driving films.

This was kind of hard to see on my phone's tiny screen. Luckily I caught a long red light about half way in.

Pfft, everyone knows if you're travelling in somewhat of a straight line you can easily steer with your knee and occasionally look up to make no sudden turns are coming up.

Actually I laughed. Reality of texting accidents is sad, but this staged thing was hilarious.

I was about to say these things need to be super brutal to get rid of any cheesy comedic aspects. But after your response, I guess they failed.

They should've let the director(s) of the Final Destinations series do this PSA.

How many awful drivers have you stared down or glared at in the last few months, only to see that they have a cell phone to their ear, or that they're looking down at something ... likely a phone.

God bless the USA and all that nonsense, but I wouldn't hesitate for a second to ban cell phones -- any use of cell phones -- from the driver's side of a car. I don't care how good you think you are, it's dangerous.

Good point, Mr. Dwyer. When you're at a shortly-timed green light and the driver in front of you is still texting when the light turns green, you bet I would be pissed.

What nonsense are you talking about, though? Elaborate, please.

A good friend of mine was riding passenger side and said: "hey, y'all know that law goes into effect about no texting while in a school zone in September, right?"

I quickly answered: "If it was up to me, I'd ban just CELL PHONES in general while in school zones... but... I know you're not doing that to begin with, are you?" He calmly said "no, man, no way... that's dangerous... but I agree texting should be outlawed everywhere and cell phones altogether in school zones."

It was a casual conversation amongst friends, but we got that most people nowadays are raving mad about getting "rights" and "privileges" taken away... it's not that... it's everyone's safety.

    According to my company's intranet...

Effective September 1, 2009, the Texas State Legislature passed a state law (Texas House Bill 55) banning the use of hand-held mobile devices when driving in a school crossing zone.

So i guess that means NO cell phones in a school zone.

Yes, you're correct, Lady_Di. http://www.legis.state.tx.us/tlodocs/81R/billtext/pdf/HB00055F.pdf contains the entire law. It's a overall general "wireless device" ban. I guess I may have worded it or rephrased our conversation incorrectly.
