I think the reason we didn't do the KT and #15 to move up for Woods trade was because of this recent high dollar promo video highlights that KT's agent put out. <img src="http://www.flashlings.com/images/thenewk9.gif">
Nice concoction HP, I had heard rumors about packaging KT + #15 for a talented yound small forward, but others allegedly asked for Griffin in exchange which squelched the deal. I think that KT + either #15 or another player is a "likely" possiblity this summer.
it's like the Rockets didn't even realize that Qyntel is super ultra athletic. What a dumb move. Maybe they can still make the trade... but they seem all complacent and stuff.
"Shareef was seen running away." LOL! Yeah, I remember that game. Thanks for posting that. KT and 15 for Woods. Whatever.
Do I remember correctly that Woods went #22 to Portland? Why did Toronto pick a MoPete Clone in Kareem Rush when they could have had the McGrady clone with Woods? I think we did fine with Nachbar. I don't mind taking a small hit on talent to pick up a guy with good character, but I think in years to come a lot of people will regret having passed on Woods. I wish we could have gotten Dickau, too-- at 37!
The problem with Woods is that he is that he failed to exhibit even a moderate understanding of NBA defense during his workouts. For the most part the Rockets are a poor defensive team (except EG), and Woods would do nothing to improve this situation. As an offensive SF, he has a game too similar to Francis, but nearly not as explosive. Rudy T covets a face to the basket scorer that can also hit the 3. Woods is not thought to possess this ability either.
I know Woods seemed like a good pick, but the guy has some issues. 1. He has a police record. I even heard today that much of it is not for public consumption meaning it has been sealed. 2. He cannot play defense. I read one scout that said he had extremely limited defensive skills and, at times, didn't even attempt to play defense. 3. Most importantly, he is not very bright. Reports were that he had a hard time remembering plays, which contributed to his freelancing on the floor. Apparently, he doesn't fully understand basic X's and O's type stuff and has a really hard time with it. For me, this was about taking a guy who already has developed skills and can play right now in Nachbar. He's smart, can shoot lights out and can dunk with the best of them. He loves to run the floor and is really excited to play in Houston. Enough for me.
But Jeff, you and others are the champion of "KT is out most valuable trading commodity." We need to trade him, and we had the opportunity to package him with the #15th and take Woods. I don't know what Rudy was thinking. We missed a golden opportunity to trade KT.
Calm Down! It was a perfect Draft for the Rockets! Rt &CD got all 3 picks exactly as they wanted. I trust in their selection, they are the experts after all.
Though I don't know much about Nachbar I do know this. He has played pro ball since 1997 and the Rockets need help now. I'm comfortable with this pick. Woods might be oozing with talent but not enough can be said about a players brains. Smart players last longer and can contribute more to their teams than just athleticism. I am happy with selecting a young talented player that also has professional experience. Kudos to the Rockets.
True, but looking at how the draft went down, KT and the 15 probably would have given us a pretty good chance of getting Caron Butler. And that would have been worth doing, imo.
Yeah! I'm sure RudyT and Co. were so busy they overlooked that about Woods(geez, give me a break!). Woods doesn't play defense and rumors swirl about a "drug problem". Yeah, he would have been a good choice, huh? Nachbar is more READY to play in the NBA than Woods and has a better outside shot. LOVED the Nachbar pick! JMO of course...
None of TNT's panel of experts (Barkley, Smith, Brown, and Snyder) thought that Caron Butler would have a tough time playing the NBA three. They didn't give it a second's though while it was roundly debated here. I'd rather have Kenny and Nachbar than just Butler in retrospect.
