    Vujacic off national team
    August 24th, 2009, 11:48 am · 21 Comments · posted by JANIS CARR, OCREGISTER.COM

Let’s see. You play for the defending NBA champions. You have two more years existing on a three-year deal the Lakers gave you because they thought you were worth it.

You averaged 5.8 points and 1.4 assists off the bench. Sure it was down from a year ago, but still you contributed to the Lakers’ championship run.

But you’re not good enough to play for the Slovenian National Team?

That’s the predictament Sasha Vujacic is in today after being cut from the Slovenian National Team, days before the European Champinships are set to begin. sasha1

Maybe he sore knee was hindering his play. After all Vujacic did miss some exhibitions because of the knee injury.

But Pau Gasol got hurt and Spain didn’t cut him. Tony Parker also injured himself and France still has him on the roster.

Maybe Slovenia is deep enough without Vujacic. Maybe Vujacic didn’t fit into their scheme. Maybe Vujacic wasn’t good enough.

    Nah. Well…

    I feel sorry for him....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :D Sorry.

That Laker team was actually quite horrible outside of it's Big 3. Fisher should be a second or third string PG at this point in his career, Ariza (despite what you see in GARM) didn't do anything half the starting SF could not do and that bench is atrocious. Walton isn't very effective anymore and Sasha won't be in the league after his deal with LA is up.

Yup, I am very worried about Ariza actually...

At 5-6 million for 5 years, I am not so sure...

So basically, if Von Wafer were Slovenian, he would not make their national team?

Just checked and apparently he is starting at SG for them. I guess Sasha lost the right to backup Nachbar.

the team is Goran Dragic, Jaka Klobucar, Jaka Lakovic, Domen Lorbek, Beno Udrih, Samo Udrih, Goran Jagodnik, Bostjan Nachbar, Primoz Brezec, Jurica Golemac, Erazem Lorbek, Uros Slokar, Matjaz Smodis and Gasper Vidmar.

the machine had a very nice run in one play-off, if he continued that the contract would be great value..... the inability to knock down an open 3 has destroyed the machine's confidence, wonder if he will soon but cut from his role as Luke Walton's wing man

I still can't believe how Von got locked down by this guy.

Anyway, I think Vujacic getting cut may be mostly personality issues. Because regardless of how much of a scrub you think he is, he can't possibly not make the national team based on talent.

His talent is shooting and he shot abysmally in the Playoffs.

Yes. But he was shooting against top NBA defenses. Not European national team defenses.
