You are still in pretty good shape if you get even decent seasons out of your wideouts, since you likely have the top QB and RB on your team, even though yahoo does only give QBs 4 pts per TD pass.
The wildcard in most drafts, in my opinion, is where people value DeAngelo Williams. You could argue that even with Stewart taking more of the workload off him that he will be at least as productive as the other top 7 running backs. Yet, I see Williams often going in the second round.
Sorry for the quick derailment but I know a lot of people don't check out the fantasy sports forum but there is a league in need of a 1 more member! Check it out http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=173279
I'm picking #6 in my 10 team league draft on Sept 8th. AP is going #1 in nearly every mock draft I've seen, and I think for good reason. After him I think there is a lot of uncertainty at the RB position. I REALLY don't understand the love affair that so many people have with Steven Jackson. Dude has never finished in the top 10 for fantasy RB's yet he is still considered a top 5 draft choice. There is no way I'm taking him at #6 if he is still there. I do actually like LT this season and could take him since he will probably be there for me. Then again I do have a slight desire to take one of the top WR's instead, but I doubt I'll pull the trigger on it.
Steven Jackson just needs a decent line and a reason to play through injury. My fantasy problem is I don't always draft the best player available. I try and get a QB or receiver relatively early knowing that RB is a deeper position in terms of finding solid productivity. It never works.
Really? I think it's the opposite. The point difference between the top and average QB's is really minimal. I really don't think it's ever worth it to take a QB in the first 4 rounds. I think RB is the position that you have to take early otherwise you can get screwed.
Your right, but RB is so unpredictable. Your way is "correct" believe me. I just have an odd hang-up. Especially when you get 2-3 rookie RBs breaking 1000yds these days. I need to see a fantasy psychologist.
If you look at the pre-season and end-of-season ratings for RBs, I don't think you'll find much correlation. WR's and QB's tend to perform to expectations a lot more. The old RB/RB strategy used to work in the days when most teams had a single RB, but that's just no longer the case anymore. Last year, guys like Addai, Steven Jackson, Brian Westbrook, Portis and LT were all amongst he top picks - outside of Peterson, virtually all the top RBs were terrible last year. Many top guys like Forte, Slaton, DeAngelo Williams, etc all could be had way down in the later rounds of the draft. Outside of 3 or 4 RB's, its all a crapshoot every year these days. I think it's better to get solid WR's and QBs and the collect an army of RBs throughout the bottom of the draft and see which ones pan out.
When Randy moss was traded to NE, I made sure I got both Moss AND Brady that year. The rest of my team did not even matter, those 2 carried me to the championship
Sike, if they go head to head on 10 times. Merriman will porbably destroy him 9 times. MJD just got lucky. He is worthy of the number 2 though, it's a toss up between him and Forte.
I do see your point, I guess it is just hard to change my thought process when I've been so used to going RB/RB every year. In my keeper league last year many of the top RB's weren't available, so I went freaking Jamal Lewis and Edgerrin James for my first 2 picks. Obviously I would have been a lot better off taking a top WR. Do you guys think #6 is too soon to take someone like Fitzgerald? I'm not in a PPR league.
Just drafted in a ten team league. I had the tenth pick. People went RB crazy in round 1, so I took Randy Moss and Andre Johnson at #10 and #11. For my next 2 picks, I took Ryan Grant and Marion Barber. I also got Knowhown Moreno a little later, since I think he could have a big year for Denver. \
Just drafted. 7th pick in a 10 pick league... I was stoked that Forte somehow fell to me, but after that I am confused as to how to view my team. Oh, and I checked the league settings and for some reason passing touchdowns are worth less than receiving or rushing... so I tried to keep that in mind. QB: Kurt Warner QB: Jay Cutler WR: Reggie Wayne WR: Hines Ward WR: Jerricho Cotchery RB: Matt Forte RB: Steve Slaton TE: Owen Daniels K: Jason Elam D: Miami RB: Marshawn Lynch (hopefully he'll be strong after the suspension) QB: Joe Flacco WR: Desean Jackson
Look to trade a QB for some receiver help if possible. You might get lucky with Britt, but the Titans haven't had a 1,000 yard receiver since Mason. Avery will get his chances because the Rams will be passing a lot, but there is such little talent left in St. Louis. I think your 3 starters have their best years behind them. You better hope Peterson and Brown can stay healthy.
Yep. I have the #4 pick and I'm not looking forward to it. But looking at what he did last year, he would be the #1 pick overall if people thought there was any chance of him doing that again. Does anyone think he can be nearly as good as that again? If Turner and MJD are gone, is he the best available at #4? Apparently J Stewart has been banged up in pre-season which helps his value even more.
